Bad Luck....
Bad Luck....
Hey,
I have been looking for 89-92 Camaros for the last year. I have done plenty of research on these cars so I know what I'm looking for.
Just recently, my Dad and I (I'm 16) found a 92 RS that has been modified with new headers, cold air, etc. A dealer owned it and got it as a trade in. It had 96,000 miles on it, and ran beautiful. We were going to pick it up this Friday to have a mechanic inspect it. However, when we got to the dealership it turns out the ******* sold the freaking car! We drove 30 minutes and found out my car was gone.
He could of at least called us to tell us it was sold.
Anyway, we were thinking today. The dealer had something very fishy about him. The cars AC blew warm air out of it. We said to the dealer that we would be interested in buying the car if the AC was a minor fix. He said, "Don't go through the hassel, I'll send it to a mechanic myself and have it inspected." We said no thanks and decided to come by later that week to pick it up to have it inspected.
It turns out the dealer had the car listed for $5,995 but recently lowered it to $4,995. I think he knew the car would cost around $1000 to have the AC fixed. I think the car was not sold, he is just trying to screw with us.
I'm thinking about calling from another number and seeing if he still has the car for sale.
What should I do?
Also, I am DESPERATE for an 89-92 Camaro 350 TPI I will pay up to $6,500 for a nice local car. I live in the Kansas City Metro Area. PLEASE help me find a car.

Hey rice burner,
Let me give you some free advice. I've been in that time frame before. Never forget that there's allways another car out there.Yeah, I know what you mean about wanting a camaro really bad. Never tell someone how much you're willing to pay, make them give you a price first. Becouse a guy could be selling a z28 for three, and you come along (unknowingly) and say you're willing to pay 65 hundred, and he says, "ok". Not trying to be a smart @ss or anything, just trying to help. Check the papers, and keep saving your money. good luck man.

Don't want to sound like a jerk or anything, but he's a dealer and in the business to sell cars. Without a deposit, he had no guarantee you would come back for the car. Money talks! Also, the AC fix would not have cost $1000. You can replace the entire system for much less than that. It probably needed a recharge which isn't that expensive from a dealers point of view. That doesn't sound fishy to me. It's sounds like a dealer that was willing to get a problem fixed before he sold the car! You might have researched the cars good, but you obviously need to research how business gets done and how dealers work. There are plenty more cars out there to choose from.
Thanks for your input. We were going to pick up the car and make a $1000 deposit for him to hold the car until we had it checked out. He knew this, however he also knew that something major was wrong with the car and that is why he was reluctant (sp?) to let us have the car inspected.

I'm 33 and have been buying cars for years. The oldest line used to walk away from a salesman is "I'll be back on XX day" or "The cars been here a few days, I'll risk it still being here when I come back". If you gave him even a $100 deposit, he would've known you would be back at least to get your money back. No money down and he didn't expect you to return so he sold the car to the next guy. All I can say is live and learn.
You need to beat the "used car salesman" at his own game. If you want to buy a car, do it on a Monday afternoon or Tuesday afternoon. Those are typically the slow days and they are willing to deal. Also, if you are interested in a car, put something down to hold it. By law, they can't sell the car from under you without first notifying you. If they do, you can sue them for the cost of the car. That's a risk they won't take. This will buy you some time to decide if you really want that particular car. Most car salesman are not as educated about a specific vehicle as the consumer. Do your homework, like you did, and use it to your advantage.

Thanks man,
What can you tell me about this car?:

It needs new valve springs. That's all.

Get the motor looked at before you do anything. With that many mods done and an aftermarket chip, this car sounds hacked. I would get a professional shop to inspect the engine and give you a written estimate for repairs. If their $$ is too high, get a second opinion. It might cost you a few dollars up front, but it's better than getting stuck with a $4000 debt on a $2000 car.
Also, get the suspension and tranny inspected.
