2/3 Drop in 1990 Production Numbers
Does anyone know of the reason that the overall production numbers of the Firebird Combined Models dropped by 2/3 only for the year 1990.
1989 - 64,404
1990 - 20,553
1991 - 50,234
Just found it odd and it peaked my curiosity as to why this was done or why it happened.

All 1990 Firebirds are relatively rare, partly due to a shortened model year. Build-out for these cars took place in mid December 1989, at Van Nuys. By Dec 26, Pontiac had issued a press kit on the 1991's and they showed up in the showrooms in January. By late Feb 1990, production versions of the so-called "early 1991's" were rolling out of van Nuys.
Its because IROC dropped the contract with GM so GM decided to stop making the Fbody for the rest of the production year, BECAUSE they couldnt make the IROC anymore, that is why they brought back the Z's and only made 20000 Camaros and Birds each, and they stopped on Dec. 31, 1989.
