A friend of mine just bought an 87 base model Camaro with a 305 , I was wondering if they put 4 barrel carbs on them ? When he told me it had a carb I thought it was a TBI and he just made a mistake , it's his first car. I ran his VIN in the VIN decoder and it says originally equipped with 305 LG4. I didnt get any rpo codes or anything , but I did take the top of the air-cleaner off and it's got a carb . I thougt by 87 they were all either TBI or TPI.Thanks for any info.

 

He very well may have a carb, 87 was the last year of the LG4 carbed 305 as the base-model V8. 88 was the first year of TBI for those low-power applications.

 

Yeah 87 got the LG4. My buddy just picked one up too. What's neat about the 87 LG4 is it has a roller cam and centerbolt heads.

 

My late production 1986 SC has the LG4 with a 4 bbl Quadrojet carb. Yours probably does too. Still ticking at 210,000 miles.

 

My 87 Z-28 has the 305 lg-4 computer controlled Q-jet 4 barrle carberator. The only reason I am keeping this combo is because it an original convertible, otherwise, I would be building a 383 fuel injection engine. :lala:

My Artic White Z-28 Vert is #11 on Willie's List of 12. Once I figure out how to get a picture of it on my signature, I will post a picture of it.

 

87 was the last year of carburated engines in a Camaro, 88 and up had nothing but fuel injection.
