Where there any special edition Trans Am's in 87? Also stock 87 T/A wheels?
I'm buying an 87 T/A and the owner said it has a rare option or something that only around 1200 were made. I have been around for a while and have never heard of anything and have heard too many times of a buyer trying to sell the car so he tries to sell it as rare. The car is not a GTA and is maroon with silver ground effects and WS6 package. Anyone heard of anything special on a GTA?
Another question I had is what were the stock wheels on an 87 T/A. I know you could get the GTA-style wheels, what did the others look like?
Thanks for your time,
Matt

There were no limited or special edition Firebirds for 87. I would be cautious of the car as GTA's did not have painted GFX's

I know there were no GTA's with GFX colored differant than the car. He told me it is NOT a GTA, but was some special edition or something. Do you know what the possible wheels that came on T/A's looked like?

Flash84Z28,
The color combo sounds right for an 1987 Trans Am (non GTA). I don't know of anything special for 1987 Trans Ams, but it may help to ask the owner again about it. See what he thinks is so special. 1200 isn't quite that rare about an option.
As for wheels, the 15 inch Turbo Hi-Tecks were standard, but with the WS6 option, the 16 inch Turbo Hi-Tecks came with the car (which look like the wheels on 85 T/A WS6's car). The Diamond Spoke GTA style could be had late in the year (only Trans Am had charcoal black, not GTA gold), or even dealer installed. Check the RPO codes on the sticker in the center glove box (center console).
I hope this helps you!
Later,
George

Yeah! That helps a lot. So the 15" and 16" wheels were the same design and late in the year the T/A had optional GTA-style wheels, except black spokes.
Thanks a lot,
Matt

Sorry I read your post wrong Matt
What my good friend George is saying, the 16" are convex, the 15's are concave.
Now there is a one of a kind 87 T/A that does exist, only one made, but never made it into production:

Hi Don!!!
The pictes you posted look good! But the last one with the red seats look like Corvette C4 seats to me, not Recaros! Maybe a misprint somewhere???? They sure don't look like yours or mine!!
Have a good one,
George

Hi G!
They say they are Recaros, I have seen a set like those before, they have the buttons on the bolster for adjustment.
You may be right however, Ill look into it.
The plan was to use off the shelf parts in case the car went into production. The wheels shown are a one of a kind set. The owner is using Ronals for now as there are some structural concerns with the rims, he plans on putting them back.

Well it looks like this car was not a T/A but a Firebird, my mistake
It was called the Suntour and was made by ASC. Because of GM's interest in the convertibles, this project never made it.
They must have used some old S/E hoods because the corner vents are missing.

Guys,
I just got a Press Kit for the car just yeasterday! Pretty cool. If you look at the seat backs, you will notice that they are exactly like the Corvette! The seat controls also! Recaros (like the ones in my '81 Turbo Trans Am) only have them on one side (the center console side), and they face up, not on a angle!
I agree with kizz, I love the mirrors!!! I sure don't look at my cars as the BMW of American cars, but as the Porsche of American cars!

Those wheels are supposed to be a one of a kind set, and I read they weren't used because they weren't structurally sound.. yet I have seen those wheels on a few other cars.. there's one below. Any ideas?
