whats up with that????

I was looking at the tech data on this site and the only 350 that it lists for any year is an L98... I know this isn't true... so what i'm asking is:
"What 350's were available in the Z28's in 1989?"

I'm considering buying one and the guy told my dad (they work together) that it was a 350 but dad said that it has a breather like on a carb or on TBI... so what is this??? possibly???
and what is the hp rating on the motors...

Sorry to ask so much
thanks a bundle

Actually that is true. The the L98 motor only came with a automatic though. Its not stock if what he says is legit. The only 350 avaliable was a TPI motor that produced 230-240 h/p.
I thought all Z28's had TPI motors in them anyways, so if it looks like a carb then it can't be original.

350 TBI's came in Caprices and trucks.

In the years of 88-90 there actually was no Z28. Only the IROC. And the IROC could have any motor you wanted except the V6.

All thirdgen's that came stock with 350's will be TPI and will have auto trannys. They will also have L98 on the RPO sticker and the 8'th digit of the VIN number will be "8".

Maybe this car has been converterd to carb. You will probably be best off checking the engine casting numbers on the block to make sure it's a 350 in it.

The last 3 numbers in the casting number is on the side of the block on each side under the heads. '87 to '92 305 blocks have 627 on them in the place. I'm not sure what the 350 blocks have. You can look for these numbers on www.mortec.com

The Crossfire injection is a throttle body injection setup. The injectors are housed within the two throttle bodies, and that is what defines throttle body injection, or TBI.

Wasn't the TBI LO3 305 the "base motor" on the Z28 and optional on RS - although it seems most Z28s got the 205 hp TPI 305. I remember reading that somewhere but I have never seen a Z28 with TBI (excluding Cross-Fire).

The LG4 (305 4bbl) was the base Z28 engine until the 1988 model year. In 1988 the carb was dropped in favor of the TBI setup (L03).
