84 15th TA sitting for 5 years outside with no oil changes, bad?

I found a 84 15th Ann. TA with 50k for $5k. The car has been sitting outside for 5 years with no oil changes & only started a couple of times a year & driven once or twice in 5 years. Is this very bad for the engine &/or car?

The car has been pianted, there is alot of overspary, & needs to be painted again. The tires are new, but cracking. There is rust on the tip of the hood. The interior is in vg condition. The speedometer & fan motor/a/c died while I was driving it. (Well first the a/c died and then there was this loud noise and then the fan stopped working). The engine was alittle rusty & I found aliitle nest in the air filter.

Is this a car that I should just walk away from? I know there are not many around, but for $5K could I get something better?

Car: 1991 Formula
Engine: 350 firebreathing inches of Small Block Chevrolet
Transmission: A 700R4 that has trouble handling the formentioned 350.
I think you just walk away from something like that. Sure it was only one of 1200 but that's not that rare. Plus you would have to put a lot of time and $ into it. $5K is way too much, maybe like $1000 - $1500. Just my opinion, unless the car has some sentimental value to you.
Good Luck, Garrett

Thanks for the reply. I have no emotional attachment to the car. I only meet it once & was just looking for an investment and nothing more.

I think I will pass. Thanks again.

Car: Recaro Option T/A
Engine: 305 Tuned Port Injection
Transmission: Automatic
Axle/Gears: 3:27 Borg Warner
I would buy it just for the interior, the cosmetics can be fixed, but the interior is irreplaceable.

Hi Robert!
I agree with Don (85 T/A WS6)! If the seats are in very good condition themselves, they would be worth at least a couple of grand! I have a set used, with some damage, out of a 15th, and I hope to help somebody out with their car!
I just looked at a couple of these cars myself! I am totally amazed at the prices alot of people ask for these cars! I saw one that was totally trashed! And they wanted $3,500! Everything had to be replaced or repainted! The seats were pretty much destroyed! But, the owner did show me a huge pile of printed material taken from the internet! Boy-Oh-Boy! I wouldn't have even given the guy a thou!!! I also just saw one in the junk yard, painted green! Such a shame!
Just to let you know, most of these cars will probally need to have the engines rebuilt sometime, so don't worry about that. The decals are no longer anywhere! The reproduction shops all sell rolls of tape!!! Not the same thing!!
I myself, don't think the car is worth $5,000! Maybe $3,000 though. You will have to decide! One other thing though, don't think a car that needs lots of work will be an investment, they won't be! They always seem to end up as money pits!!

Hope this helps,

George

I think I would walk.

The car you want is out there you just have to find it.

For 5 grand you can find something better.
