Camaro vs. Firebird VIN
Now we know that the VIN breaks down and we can determine many things for example 1G2FS23F0NL200001 we can descifer the first 11 didgets with no problem. For example we know that 1=USA, G=GM, 2=Pontiac F=Car line "F-body", S=Firebird etc.
I did not do a search, but from what I have read here many people seem to assume that the each of our VINs is in numarical sequence order starting at 100001 and up from there Firebird or Camaro. All 4 of the Pontiacs I have owned all looked something like this: 2xxxxx. My newer Buicks all look something like this 4xxxxx.
I believe I may have stumbled upon something that is rather interesting. While at the T/A nats in Dayton this year, GM brought the very first 1992 Firebird. Interestingly enough the sequence number did not start with a 1 but rather a 2. If you look at the picture you will notice that the Production sequence number is 200001.
My question is this, Who here has a Firebird that has a production sequence that starts with a 1?

If those numbers are right (I am not doubting you, Just have a question) what would they do if they exceeded 100,000 units???
Apparently the Camaro had 100,000+ units for 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, 89, 91.
And Firebird exceeded 100,000 units for 82, 84 & 86???
there is only 6 numbers in the sequence, 2 cars should not have the same sequence number should it?
does anyone know???
