Bogus GTA's

There is some stroke on Ebay advertising a 1990 T/A as a GTA.

I confronted him about it and the guy gets hostile, says that a Carfax report told him it was a GTA.

If you are looking to buy a real GTA, and the RPO sticker does not have the Y84 option on it keep looking.......its not a GTA.

Told the wingnut the same thing. It is obviously not a GTA. He said the same Carfax crap. Then I ask him, if he was going by Carfax says, why HE lists "305/5.0L V8 TPI engine" in the description and where he got the idea it had "Anti Lock Brakes". He does a Porky Pig imitation and hangs up. The low bid shows more people know about the car than this idiot does.

What a tool, its absolutely not a GTA by visual confirmation, it lacks the badges and even has the Trans Am fender scoops.

VIN doesnt confirm GTA, as stated above RPO lists do, the only way a VIN can confirm GTA is through PHC.

My car is missing its RPO but all the visuals are there, GTA badges on each fender, on the hood, the sail panels, the gold laced rims, articulating seats, (for 89) the steering wheel with radio buttons.

That car on ebay shows all evidence to it NOT being a GTA and only a Trans Am. sorry CarFax doesnt prove a GTA.

All high bidders should be warned, this stuff cannot be allowed.

On Sep-16-02 at 20:31:07 PDT, seller added the following information:
A couple people e-mailed me saying that they don't think this is a GTA, but the VIN # check through Carfax returns a Trans Am GTA with a 5.7L engine. So if you got a problem with that, please contact Carfax. I'm not a Firebird expert and since Carfax rarely makes mistakes I will go with their description. Please don't e-mail me with a 10-page essay arguing the difference between a Trans Am and a GTA, send it to Carfax and make them change their information if you think they're wrong.

This guy listed it as private! he essentially could be ripping someone off! this $3050 high bid 3 days left.

CARFAX cant authenicate a GTA only a Y84 RPO, PONTIAC or GM can!

Thats Carfaxes way of generalizing the TA/GTA and not separating them. This fool is listing it as a GTA and is using CarFax to claim false authenication (Like he saying hey if Carfax says its a GTA it is despite evidence to the contrary). Its not even possible to warn the bidders, oh well if they bid to buy a GTA and find out its just a TA thats their own fault.

I've seen so many ebay morons that try and say their car is a GTA, just so they can get a higher bid, it's kinda sad really. But from the ones I've seen they are really easy to tell they are fakes. I have yet to see a really good fake GTA...

Carfax also lists my GTA as having a TBI/FI, it is a TPI FI injection system.

Carfax generalizes:

Year/Make/Model: 1989 PONTIAC FIREBIRD TRANS AM/GTA
Body Style: Hatchback 2 DR
Engine Type: 5.0L V8 TBI/FI
Manufactured In: UNITED STATES

This is my car. which has yet to be officially verified a GTA but if it isnt my car is a more convincing clone than that fool on ebay's T/A

Made in: United States
Manufacturer: General Motors
Make: Pontiac
Carline Code: F-Body
Carline Series: Trans Am, Formula
Body Type: 2 door coupe (hatchback)
Restraint System: Manual belts
Engine Code: 305 ci V8 LB9 (1987-1992)
3 is the CHECK DIGIT
Model Year: 1989
Assembly Plant: Van Nuys
Production Sequence: 247512

Heres the same car using this sites VIN decoder, note the LB9 (TPI) verification.

Here's the link to the ebay auction in case more of you want to email him:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1859409795

What a tool...this guy needs to be bombarded from all of us with email telling him to quit advertising it as a GTA. It's only a click away!

Trans Am's ('85-92) and GTA's ('87-'92) VIN's start 1G2FW23.
With the exception of the '89 TTA 1G5FW21.
Tell that to my 85 and 86 TA's, and my 89 GTA. The 85 was 1G2FW87, and my 86 is 1G2FW87. My 89 GTA is 1G2FW21.
