Best year for the 3rd gen camaro?
In your opinions..
I wanna know what year do u think was the best 3rd gen year?
In my eyes I think it was the 86`s
but than agian, the early 90`s are nice and the 88`s (which I got) are coo!
like I know they are all mostly the same, but by the best packages in the years that they came by and stuff like that.
thats what I mean by this posting.

Although I don't own one, I'd have to say the 92's were the best year due to some chassis strengthening, and overall better quality of parts.

86, yeah right, I'd like to think so,but no.
I'd have to go for any '87 or later 350TPI... with disc rear.

personally, I think 1992 was the best year for the 3rdgen f-body because it featured the last and best revisions ....
closely followed by 1990, because they still had the IROC name, and had the new interiors.

I think the 91 and 92's. In 1991, they came out with the redesigned ground effects, the new power blisters for the hood, and the rear Aero Spoiler for the Z28.....and in 91....that's when they really shot the power and torque into the 5.7 TPI (L98)'s. And in 1992....it was the last year for the 3rd gen.....and you just gotta love the *heritage edition* package.

Car: 1991 Formula
Engine: 350 firebreathing inches of Small Block Chevrolet
Transmission: A 700R4 that has trouble handling the formentioned 350.
OK styling definatly goes to the 91-92 Camaro's in general, not just Z's but RS's too (only real difference is the hood and spoiler). Then a close second is the in your face styling and stickers of the 88-90 IROC TPI 350's.
Now onto power and perfomance, I'm pretty sure that the '89 TTA wins that, Yea. Second (a very close second) is the Firehawks of '91 and '92. Third you guessed it 350 TPI newest to oldest. Then you have the LB9's and L69's.
Popularity goes to the early (1982 - 1984) Camaro's, Man they made a lot of those cars .
Later, Garrett (Some of my opinions may be based on previous cars owned)

Personally (and rather biased), I prefer the '90 T/As. The last year for the old style gfx/bumpers, so they've had the least time to rust.
On second though, I do love the look of a '91 T/A convertable... Oh oh, and the GTA notchbacks, the factory notches look great. Dammit I guess that's three.

My vote goes to ...
The '88 - '90 Formula 350s would be the years I consider best from a styling standpoint. I feel the overall look on those cars was just spot on. Agressive styling, not over-stated, and (for the time) fast. Plus, Pontiac interiors (seats, particularly) were just so much better than the Camaro.
In general, the last year of anything GM builds is usually the best from a build / peformance standpoint. Presumably they've spent all those previous years improving the car. A buddy of mine had a '92 RS and it was noticably better in terms of squeak, rattle and general quality than earlier F cars either or us had owned.

From a quality standpoint I'd say 1992.
They seem to be built the best overall and have less creaks and moans. Plus they're anniversary cars (badge and decals...yawn).
As far as looks go, I like the 1991 and 1992s the best. All third gens look good, though. The 1982 T/As look good(as do all T/As), the 1985-90 IROC-Zs look good, the '89 TTAs are fast ..but that new front fascia on the 1991,92 Formula and the awesome bulges and huge spoiler on the '91,92 Z28s are just perfect!
If I had the money, I'd have one for each year

Firebirds representing?!
Ha!
Should I be surprised that a few bird fans hopped on this thread!??
I have the 89 Formula, and I like the styling, but w/o picking a year, I'd say the Banshee styled 91/2 front clip and accented side affects were a nice touch, unlike other goudy slap on panels seen on GM's other makes.
Also, The 3rd gen Camaros had quite a selection of bolt on trim, more so then the 'Birds, yet, for the most part, they look good to me!
The assumption that the last by GM is best is fairly spot on, as examples; the ZR1, Fiero, & Impala SS, etc.
These are such great affordable hot rod machines, it's not even funny

I'm partial to 87's, because i own one, and because it was the first year for the 350, the 'vert, and had a unique interior pattern

The GTA you refer to is the 1989 Turbo Trans Am, from what I can tell.
I think he was commenting separately from the car pic, however

91 overall because it has all the revisions with newest style and better power and less recalls than the 92.
the only thing "cool" about the 92 is the heritage package; besides that the extra price to have those stripes and all the recalls is definately not a selling point.
by far the most standout years of the 3rdgeneration camaro.
for the firebird i would have to say the black and gold gta's pre 91-92 where they still had a style to them and not the begining phases of the newer 4thgen "wedge" style. although still nice cars i just think the earlier gta's had a more powerful appearance.
but again, this is just preference right!

'Bird stance
RE: your Firebird preference...
I guess I agree, owning one!
I looked at a photo I took right in front of the car, down low. The headlights closed, and the roof just barely visable above the hood curve. From that perspective, the car looks totally unlike most automobiles.... I may put that pic up. (license in the shot though)
I was humorously thinking about what someone who hadn't seen modern cars would think looking at the 3rd gen from that perspective view!

92 camaro z28 305tpi manual with t-tops.........thats the perfect car to find.
who says 91 has more power than 92?...my 305 92 beat my friends 305 91 by a car length and he was running 93 oct to my 87. His engine is even in better shape and he has less miles. I think 92's are a little lower than 91's too...can anybody confrim this? cause mine sits 1 inch lower than his and it hasnt been lowered.

The 1991 and 1992 Z28 305 and 350 are exactly the same cars. In 1992 you could get the heritage package. Late 1991 and all 1992 RS B4C came with the 1LE front brakes. My personal preference: I like them all, but if you can find a unique one (1LE, B4C) then go for it.

Altho I have a '86 and it is nice, to have and hold that '91 or '92 would be better. Something about the GFX and the dash not to mention the handleing. However it is better to have any year than no year at all.

I would go Turbo Trans Am...then 91-92 L98...then 90 IROC-Z L-98.
Now which car would LT-1/LS-1 owners fear most from the "bull pen"of 3rd generations?????....the answer would be the TTA/Firehawk. I get a "buzz" out of reading posts from the LS-1 board where everyone "claims" that their near stocker LS-1 will run low 13s. That's with slicks...the TTA with "minor mods" and slicks would be running high 12s.

I think 92's were the best. It was the camaro's 25th anniverserary. I also think it is the best because it is the latest and the greatest, Gm had a decade to perfect the third gen and they did with the 92.

Without a doubt....I think 1992 is the best 3rd gen made.....but.....how come nobody really gives much credit to the 91 Z28's? The only difference is the Heritage Package....and the 25th anniversary badge.....they have the same horsepower and torque numbers....I have a 91 Z28.....and I was just wondering...

In my opinion I like 89 the best. I think those are the best wheels. Im a fan of the angled spoiler similar to that from the 2nd gens. 1990 would be my choice but i dont like the airbag so for that it has to be 89. BTW if anyone wants to tell me where i can get an 89 305 5 spd G92 iroc with t tops email me ive been looking forever
