Anybody ever heard of this?
Anybody ever heard of this?
I looked at the cowl tag at the front of my car (it's an '83, no RPO sheet in console) and there is a WS5 code on there.
Anybody seen this? I'm presuming it is a suspension package, but how would it compare to WS6?
No, F41 was the high-end Chevy code.
I'm stumped!

I'm stumped! FE2 is the "high end" suspension package.
As for WS5, I have no clue, but you can't assume its a suspension package just because its right next to "WS6". For example, look at WS4. That RPO Code signifies a "Trans Am". Everybody with a Trans Am has WS4 on the sticker, which is obviously NOT a suspension package, since a WS4 car can have either F41 or FE2 suspension.

Thanks guys for the info so far.
Scott has enlightened about it being a Performance Package - Special" now to find out what makes it "special" !!!
I wonder if this is referenced in the Red Book of Knowledge (that I don't have a copy of yet...)!!!
This poor car has been so mistreated by the previous owners, it's hard to tell what hasn't been done to it, or how it was equipped!
So far, so good!

My best guess is to assume they made a typographical error of "WS4", which is the code for Firebird Trans Am, and is a pretty common code to be finding on the cowl plate on early third gens. I don't know what the real WS5 is, but it's not any susp package for 83. Even if it was, it wouldn't be on the cowl plate. Only major things go on there, like date build code, vin, color, spoiler or no spoilet, t-tops or no t-tops, paint type, where made, year, sometimes WS4 for T/A, sometimes engine code, and that's about it. I can't imagine it being an "exterior appearance" package either, since all 83 T/A's looked exactly identical on the exterior, except for color and wheel options. I could be wrong though. If it's just some option group, I guarantee you it wouldn't be going on the cowl plate for any reason.
do you have a pic of it?
