wheel options/87' Trans Am

Im getting a 87' Trans Am next week(see sig.) and from the pictures of it it appears to have 16x8 charcoal color mesh style/GTA wheels. From what I have found it was possible for a regular Trans Am to get these 16x8 wheels correct? Im assuming the car would need the WS6 option to recieve them as well. I didnt get the cars RPO codes yet, and I doubt the wheels were added on later, as the rest of the car is stock.

I belive that you are correct in your assumption everthing I have seen tells me the very same down to the ws-6 center caps that came on the formulas with 16 inch wheels

Crosslace wheels were available for GTAs only in 87. The only 16" wheel available for T/As and Formulas was the 16" High Tech Turbo, other T/As had the 15" High Tech Turbo. Crosslace wheels were available on T/As starting in '88.

8d4ta, you are incorrect. You could indeed get 16in crosslaces in 87 w/ a WS6 suspension for a TA. It was an option.

Im pretty sure it was at least for part of the year, an option. I read that in another older thread regarding this. The 87' Trans Am I bought and will receive Sunday has the 16x8 crosslace(GTA) wheels on it...sure they could of been swapped on, but the car is bone stock otherwise and was lady owned...Ill decipher the RPO codes when I get it and respond.

I almost bought a new 87 Formula that had black crosslace wheels on it. If I remember right, it was a no cost option. The car was at the dealership. Matter of fact, it just came off the truck as it wasn't even cleaned yet. They wanted way too much for it because it was one of the first Formula's they received.

There's a handy wheel identifier online:

http://www.gmtips.com/3rd-degree/dox.../wheel-dex.htm

Ironically, the only year missing is 1987! So does anyone have an 87 Pontiac dealer's book? The wheels would be in there. I'd be willing to downsize the pics and email them to the guy who runs that page, if anyone can email them to me. Already did this with 1982 and he credited me for it on the wheel index page, albeit with a misspelling.

Judging by how many 87 T/A's I see with crosslace, i.e. none, I'd have to guess that only GTA's got them that year. Formula? I'd have to say no way to that, not in 87. Just semi-educated guesses, nothing more.

Sure you could get the Charcoal Crosslaces in '87 from the factory...

I have an '87...20,600 original miles, original down to the belts and hoses, and the RPOs attest to the fact that it came with the Charcoal Crosslaces...PW7 and 18P...and it is also a WS6 car...

'87 crosslaces were also different from '88-91 crosslaces...the rim is a bit more "rounded", and there are no "notches" or "dimples" on the spokes that meet the polished/clearcoated rim...

And you all can say I'm wrong if you want, but I'm not, so whatever...

Feel free to IM me if you have any more questions, "TransAm87WS6"

Well as for me personally, like I said I was just making guesses based on the cars I see on the road. I could easily be wrong, and your car proves me wrong. I think it is probably original, especially with the codes listed, and it looks really awesome! Very unique for that year. Take good care of it. Any more pics would be great.
