rareness of my car

aight hers the deal.. i dont think my stuff is rare.. ive seen it in different setups just not in 1 package like mine.

I have an 84 SC ttop. Light Metallic brown paint, not the darker shade... it had/has (not installed at the time) the tan & black interior. Base guages w/o tach 305carb & an auto. it also has the brown painted rims that match the car.... anyone know how many were like this if it is rare in any way... or is it cool if i replace the interior, & repaint this puppy? i hate the paint color.... ick

No 3rd Gen Camaro is Rare. GM pumped them out as fast as they could and used everything in the parts bin. Rare to you ONLY.

Reguardless of what anyone says here is the truth.

1. 1LE's ARE RARE.
2. B4C's ARE RARE.
3. Firehawks are extremely rare.

I agree on those cars being rare because the production numbers were so low over years they were made. But when someone asked if a garden varietry Camaro is rare get real.

for Z28DJP1987

i hate to start this, but i came into this thread in hopes of finding out a little more about my car, however your attitude has made me reconsider this sites value. I want no more replies from you. Now will someone be NICE enough to explain something about my car? I know overall it isnt rare, i asked simply with that interior & paint combo, could it be?

Now for Z28DJP1987:

You seriously need to rethink how you treat people on this board.
I asked a simple question and you quickly bashed it. From now on i hope you at least consider what your saying a little more carefully.

One of the main reasons why the other Camaro/Iroc sites suddenly have new members is for that same reason man!

I would get a hold of a Camaro white book, it might break down the numbers for that paint/interior combo, I don't have one but plenty of people on this board do and can get that info to you.

dBarker02,

Don't be discouraged by idiots like Z28DJP1987. I think your question was very valid, you just used the dreaded word "rare" in your question, and some people flip out. Lots of guys (myself included) on the History/Resto boards have been very helpful in clearing up interior option questions. I asked one a while back about my interior, and got some great feedback. Despite the fact that you clarified how you know you're stuff isn't "rare", some people still feel the need to be prudes & make themselves sound like their F-body experts. The "true" experts on these boards won't respond like Z28DJP1987 did, making you feel like you're an idiot for asking.

Well said 83tranzam. Most of the replies and information I've seen on this board have been professional and courteous. You know the old saying: don't let one bad apple etc...

Wish I had info for dBarker2, but I don't have a clue on tracking different color schemes and interior. However, I vote paint it the color you want and enjoy! The car will probably never be recognized as rare, so no harm in modding it the way you want.

This is a notice to all. If anyone replies with:

1) "Attitude",
2) Or is condescending in any way, or
3) uses ANY profanity, or
4) just plains posts junk with absolutely no content,

PLEASE report it to me or Drew. This is made simple by the "Report to Moderator" link. We will deal with the offenders in a rational manner. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to read every post on this board, so sometimes, things get out of hand. This thread is an example of this. But now that it has my attention, I will keep a close eye on it.

This site is devoted to the sharing of information, not criticizing one other's questions. This type of behavior will not be tolerated.

Drew,
rare or not, I would probably go ahead and paint it. the fun part willl be painting everything, though. On the other hand, the color you are talking about looks suprisingly good when it is fresh or polished (for brown, anyhow). BTW, my neighbor has a brown with tan/black 84 Z-28 that he has been tinkering with. After we polished it, it actually looks nice. I doubt you will see a whole bunch of others like it, but different strokes for different folks as they say.

Chew on this:

2,000 1982 Recaro T/A's made
1,555 1989 Turbo T/A's made

Which would you say is more rare? The 82 Recaro is probably 10 times more rare.

My point is: It makes no difference how many they made: the real measuring stick is how many do you see? how many are LEFT? that's how you measure rarity. I see 1Le's and B4C's all the time without really trying. They can't be that rare.

You see 1LE's and B4C's without trying?????? Probably because people drive them and not locked up like a Picasso. I can vouch for the B4C only because I own one and the production numbers are as follows:

1. 1991=592
2. 1992=589

total=1181

That would be less than 1% of third gen Camaros ever produced.

If you see them all of the time I want to go where you live and buy a couple more. Rarity is also based on what is sought after and I would bet the 1LE and B4C is on or near the top of everybodys list.

I realize flaming to follow

If I'm not wrong, I believe those numbers are pretty close to '91 and '92 T/A 'vert production #'s....

"Rare", as is pertains to automobiles, is completely based on production numbers. Just because you don't see twenty or thirty of a particular model on the road every day hardly qualifies it as rare. Think about this; of the more than 15 million Model Ts built between 1908 and 1927, some 500,000 to 600,000 still exist today. Of those that still exist, how many do you see on the road in an entire year? Maybe a half dozen or so if you go to a couple of Fourth of July parades. The fact that you don't see them every day still doesn't make a Ford model T rare by any stretch of the imagination. Again, I'm talking about rare in the collector car world, not rare in what you see every day on the road. In the latter case, a Gremlin could be considered rare. I haven't seen one of those in quite a while.
