Help me Preserve this Airbag!!!

I just bought off of eBay what is basically an NOS airbag for my GTA. As you can see from these pictures, it has absolutely NO warpage of any kind!

This is bar-none, the BEST condition 90-92 Airbag I have ever seen!

Now the big question, how the hell do I keep it this way? Is there some kind of special glue I can put on the back edge of the cover where it wraps over the mold to keep it from warping and coming off like other airbags?

I'm confused

I do plan on having the airbag in my car. I'm even going to send the airbag with my steering wheel when it gets recovered to they can perfectly match the height and color of the leather on the wheel to the airbag so it looks factory perfect again. I just need a way to prevent the airbag from warping like all other factory airbags...

Yup, no sense in having a mint Airbag in storage while your mint car needs one

GFL.

The sun does it. If you can keep the heat off the cover, it shouldnt ever do that. Good luck, gets hot in Bakersfield.

Maybe cover it in a liquid nitrogen wrap whenever you leave the car

I figured it was the heat but the airbag in my Firehawk isn't even this nice and it's kind of a sure thing that it hasn't really been parked in the sun allot

So bascially I can do nothing but keep a cover on the steering wheel if I park in the sun and put a shade in my windshield and crack my windows to let the heat escape in the summer?

That sucks

From what I have seen, yea. Seems like they used the same 'glue' on everything in the car. I have a console, and an armrest, both of which are really old, and in really good shape. They've never really seen the light of day either. Every thirdgen I've owned has had a problem with the outer part separating from the inner. I found out living in Fresno that newer Firebird consoles dont like heat at all.

I guess you could try covering it with cloth, see if that does any good. I'm still convinced heat is more of a factor though.

Well if I can't really prevent it then I won't go out of my way to do things for it.

There's not another type of glue that may help the problem?

The thirdgen airbags never fit the steering wheels for ****. The horn buttons on the airbag you posted are already starting to warp. There is no way i've found to repair a warped airbag, and there's no easy replacement.

The airbag in my convertible is still nearly mint, but it still doesn't match the steering wheel.

They all warp. The way I look at it, it doesn't matter. Its a 90-92 Firebird, its going to have a warped airbag.

Maybe try an aftermarket cover?

BTW, its not the glue that's to blame for firebird consoles falling apart... Its simply that the vinyl that GM wrapped around the plastic frame shrinks over time. That's why the airbags warp, the consoles fall apart, armrests bulge up, dashes crack, etc... Heat/cold just accellerates it.

I am glad I do not have an airbag. I don't have to worry about it. If I want a different steering wheel I just install one.
