what is the differance, like does it have better accleration with 3.23's? what gears where in a 85 2.8 v6 with a 700 r4? the 85 was my old car and this one seems alot quicker in low end, but slower in top end than the 85 was, that thing would haul going 60 and nail it...lol get up to 80 pretty quick...not like a v8 bt still..

sorry, but you're wrong. how can you people generalize all the time, after seeing just a few cars? get real and stop misinforming unwary people by asserting your wrong opinion as if it's right.

S/E's were always sort of the rulebreaker, for one thing. my 84 2.8V6 HO 700R4 is a 3.73 as part of the WS6 package. RPO GT4. car is the beige/gold one shown below on the right. I'm sure there are other thirdgens that could have the combo. Would you believe that even a four-cylinder car could have 3.73? Well it's true. Credit delete Iron Duke Firebird S/E with WS6 package is perfectly valid, AFAIK.

the only way to know FOR SURE what your car has is to get under there and check the axle codes, or better yet open it up and take a look. if you're not up for that, check your RPO codes. codes starting with the letter G will have something to do with the axle (usually). look 'em up on the RPO decoder of this website.

But in 89, 3.23's or 3.42's we're the only gears available on a V6 Fbody.

you've got 3.42 gears. I've got a 89 RS Camaro with a 2.8L V-6 with a T-5 and its got 3.42 gears. In 89 both auto and manual 2.8 RS's came with 3.42 gears and a limited slip.

May be you do not have a Limited Slip rear (RPO G80). This was a option and GM did not add this extra cost item to standard model V-6 cars.

Depends on what wheel gets traction. Again check your RPO codes for G80. And why is so important that you burn rubber with a V-6?? Also the advantage of the Limited Slip (aka Posi) is to gain traction not lose it.
