Notchback GTA/TA

i found a notchback trans am or gta at the junkyard. but im stumped if its a rear notch or not. i know the notch hatch is the factory style one and not the aftermarket targa one. but the car is carburated, has 85-87 16" trans am wheels, not the honey combs or the formula style high tech wheel its the flush ones. the car has manual windows, manual locks, 82-84 style gauges, 85-89 style GFX, 87 and older steering wheel drum brake rearend and its maroon. the body is really really solid, straight and no rust/rot. it would be a very nice project car, the motor is all apart, lg4 or l69 pos. any one tell me what this thing is

Could be 2 things--might've been a recovered theft that was fixed just to run--or an older T/A w/either an aftermarket notch or a factory GTA notch. Can you get a look under the hatch for some kind of vin or part #'s? Does the notch have glass or plexi glass?
also--do the rear seat backs have the high(raised)headrests or not?

yeah i learned about those headrests tonight. ill look at it tomorrow. it has a defrost in the rearwindow and i think its hooked up. ill try to open the hatch if there are keys for it. its weird tis like the car is peiced together, but its in really good shape for a project car. weeiiirrddddddd

I found my extra NB decklid mounted to a 1984 Trans Am, so it's entirely possible that the hatch is an OEM unit. If you can get the decklid raised, there'll be a VIN sticker right under the lip on the LH side of the under panel.... or the residue where one once was should still be visible.

The decklid was probably pulled off a wrecked GTA at some point and installed on the car in question....

I saw what looks like a original GTA Notchback car today. They used those nasty door chrome detail strips on the edge all the way around. They had chrome fender flares. Big thick ones. The boomerang antennae. Tiny wheels. It was a terrible waste of a perfectly good thirdgen.
