Is the rear defrost delete option rare??
Yes it is kinda rare
my question is why does it matter? Like yeah there aren't that many camaros without the rear defrost, but there weren't very many chevelles with the in window defrost and it isn't a sought after thing.

i know it isn't a sought after thing. i dont care about other cars. just trying to gather up as much info on thirdgens thats all. my car's the first thirdgen i've seen without it.

To be technically correct, the term "defrost delete" does not exist for third gens. This implies the rear window defrost is included in the base car at no additional cost. To remove it, a "delete" would have to be specified when ordering the car with a credit being shown on the original window sticker. The "delete" would have an RPO code.
The rear window defogger (RPO C49) was an option on all third gen years. In 1982, it cost $125 and for 1992, it was $170. Without going into the year-by-year production figures for this option, I'll just state that roughly 50 percent (depending on year) of all third gen Camaros go the defogger.

Well I don't have the rear defrost either. I wouldn't consider it rare. I think alot of base model cars don't have it.

Interestingly, Camaros were the LAST GM car to have a rear defogger as an option. Believe it or not, '02s even had them optional. IT has however been standard on 'Birds for some time...not sure how long.

Southern and western cars are less likely to have the rear defrost. Up here in Wisconsin they all have them. Unless the car was special ordered.

I don't have rear window defrosters. I don't want it either. I prefer the look of the clear window rather than all the lines going through it but that's IMO.

That's what I thought until I looked at a car this weekend that had them. It wasn't to bad. But yeah the clear window is a bit better in my opinion.

My fully loaded 89 formula 350 w/G92(
)had rear defrost delete.
Bought the car in NJ--but I don't know if it originally came from there. I saved the glass and put it on my T/A replacement.

It may be rare, yes, but it isn't really a sought after item that can double the value of a car, like say.... an '83 with a factory L69 (HO)
But it can't hurt

I have a 89 IROC that does not have rear defrost, but it is from Florida so that explains it. I wish i did have it though cuz it gets pretty cold in Chicago.
Willie... can u just clear somehting up for me, i have a 88 iroc, it doesnt have a rear defroster switch BUT has a defroster glass(no wires connected from the hatch struts to body however(im thinking replacement glass) the car also doesnt have C49 RPO, so that means it origionally came with no rear defroster? the car is a 305TPI 5spd G92 loaded, but seems ood for no defroster but was specially ordered so who knows.
As for optional on 4th gen fbody, the rear defroster was available, it cost i think $75, dont quote me, could be 150 for all i remember. I was at the dealer deciding to order a '02 SS built to my specs or find a left over 01 SS. During that i found out i HAD to get the rear windoiw defroster if i bought an '02
since the dealer told me, "At this time, all cars sold in the state of NJ REQUIRE a rear defroster" surprised me but i didnt care much, I ended up getting a '01 SS with all the options i wanted and without the ones i didnt want (3 '01's were left on the east coast that matched my requirements, 1 cloth 2 leather. mine was shipped in from PA, **pewter SS 6sp ttops traction control ebony leather hurst shifter painted wheels single CD player**

i wish i could buy a glass hatch with out the defrosters. i would love to have it. It would have to be from a 82-85 trans am or bird. cause i want the wind i have and not have to drill holes. do any of u have any pics of the tint close up ,. so i could see how it looks in relation to having defrosters.

rear defroster is a mandatory option in i believe new york and massetcusetts (i know i destroyed that word) when i bought my 2000 z28 it said right in the order book it was mandatory in new york at least (thats where i bought my Z) so i imagine that even dack in the 80s it probrably was the same....

my 89 formula 350 does not have that option either and it has stayed in ohio and built for an ohio new car dealer ( in 89 ) wouldn't mind if it did have it though.
My 84 bird had no rear defroster and i like the clean back window look. i plan on putting it on my formula when i get a fiberglass replacment fo r the factory rear spoiler, i just need to get eh clips for the spoiler to mount it to the 84's window

My 1st Camaro, an 87, had NO OPTIONS AT ALL!
No radio
No AC
14" steel rims with trim rings
No rear defrost
2.8
5 speed
Idiot lights (no gauges)
etc. etc.
It was bought new in Lynn, MA, but I don't know if it was special ordered without the defrost or not...
It was a non-performance 1LE if you will.
