82 TA - Locking Gas Door - Lock Color?

Hello, my 82 TA has the locking gas door option. The lock itself is silver... while all my other locks have the black cap on them.

I had another 82 a few years back that also had the locking gas door BUT it had a black cap on the gas door lock as well as the doors.

There is no evidence that my lock has been changed and the key works (although I know it could have been re-keyed). Did Pontiac have 2 different locks or was mine changed somewhere along the way?

Hello again, thanks for all the replies. For those interested, I figured it out... As everybody said it should be black. There is a black cap that clamps over top of the 'normal' chrome locks. On my gas door the black cap had either fallen off or been removed. I went to the dealership and the caps are 80 cents. My gas door lock now matches my door locks perfectly.

Thanks again for the help!

You could also sand the old paint off and repaint your door locks. Worked fine for me
