how much am i looking at possibly

Well ive got an 2.8L 86 sport coupe now, soon to be repainted, by the end of the summer, im hoping to sell it, and with the money in the bank, and that i save from working i want to buy an IROC. Is it difficult to find an IROC with Ttops and a 350 motor and a manual tranny? thanks
-Greg

Yes.

No such thing was ever built by the factory. You can find 350 & T-tops; 305, T-tops and manual trans; but no 350 and 5-speed, ever.

Find a good 305 5-speed T-top car with a tired motor and install a "bore kit".

hmmmm

or you can just put a 350 in it istead of a (bore kit)
with dropping a 350 in it youd be way better off in the end the more cubes the better.

"bore kit" for a 305 = a 350 block

I didn't think you could bore a 305 out to a 350. I know they are basically the same, but I thought that was out of reach.

I knew you could stroke them to 335.

On the other note T-Tops rule. I wouldn't have a thirdgen without them. Well except maybe for a TTA.

There is a science to putting them on. I always put mine on emphasizing the front seal. If you push them as far to the front as you can they are less likely to leak. Good luck.

a 350 block
You're right, you can't bore a 305 out to a 350; that's why you have to go to the junkyard and pick up a "kit"

It would be possible to buy new sleves for the pistons, and make a 305 into a 350, unfortunately it is NOT cost effective, 350s are plentiful, get one from a truck, I might even consider a 96-98 350 Vortech, and then get thyself a TPI baseplate from Scroggen-Dicky...

my first car was a decent 198 camaro iroc-z fully loaded 5.7 t-tops, i paided 3 grand for it and it needed about 200 more dolars in it to pass inspection.

just have to shop around. around my way i couldnt find a iroc-z 5 speed with t-tops and the 305 tpi, but would be a nice combo to have.

Have fun finding one with a stick. they aren't "rare" but they are uncommon. Uncommon enough that just about every car guy I have shown my car to are suprised to see that it is a stick.

if im not mistaken it is impossible to bore a 305 out to a 350. you would have to bore it .15 over and that is impossible you would have to stroke it to.

You would have to re-sleve it... They do it for airplanes all the time...

350 bore = 4.000"
305 bore = 3.736"

a - b = .254" (how far you'd have to bore a 305 to make it a 350)
There's nowhere near that much metal

Re-sleeve = $40 or more a hole, $320 for a whole motor
Junk block = $50-100

You decide

Yea, just do like I did... pull a decent (well, mine was shot, but thats another story) 305 out of a 5 speed/T-top car and just put all the 305 parts on the 350 block. All of the parts will interchange with no problem unless the 305 is a roller block ('87+) then it may have a few issues.

Basically, just get a 350 without heads, intake, exhaust, etc etc and take all that stuff from your 305 and drop it on. All my 305 stuff is on a 350 block and its great.

One thing though... if its a TPI 305 you end up with, you will need bigger injectors for the extra 45ci.
