Is it an Iroc or no?

ok ive gotta pretty simple question....i bought an 86 "iroc" with a 305 tpi and a 700r4. It is also black, and does not have ttops, power windows or locks or hatch. im kinda suspicious of what it is and was wondering if someone knew how to read the vins. i put it into the vin decoder on here and it said z/28 but i dont know if the iroc-z option would show up or not. any help would be great. heres the vin 1G1FP87F5GN101636 I was also wondering if black was the original color. o ya and another interesting thing to me is it has an unlimited slip non posi drum break rearend. any help would be great! thanks!

ok- i can't figure out the vin right now don't have the book with me--- but the limited slip is on irocs, black is an orginal color,no ttops is possible(mine hasall of them execpt for being black, no power windows or power locks i'm not to sure about that one, the 305tpi and 700r4 where both aviable on irocs. it might just be the most basic iroc avaiable-

you have to check the rpo. it should be the sheet in the center counsel with all the numbers on it. look for the option code B4Z. that is the early model iroc code. it will also say z28 in there to.

good luck.

thanks

Nothing you posted indicates whether it is or isn't an IROC. You could get the Z28 or the IROC with that type of setup. Check your RPO code for B4Z. That's the IROC code.

Quick question RE: this issue. I bought what I thought was an '89 IROC. It does have Z28 in the RPO code list, but it does not list any of the RPO codes for the IROC packages. Does anyone have a clue of what I own? Is it almost an IROC, but not quite?

In 88 GM dropped the "Z28" badging scheme, and the IROC became a unique model, no longer an option package on top of the Z28. For whatever reason, they decided to use the Z28 RPO to identify this new model. I forgot to mention this earlier. From 88-90 the RPO Z28 is used to identify the IROCs.

this won't tell you for sure, as it could've been easily added on...but should help if you can't find your RPO codes...look for the "wonder bar" aka steering brace, also make sure your car has the GRID tail lights, as no non-iroc cars got them (from 85-90 anyways)

If the paint is original wouldn't a black body w/ black ground effects tell you its an iroc? i think z28's had different color ground effects than the body color.

yeah, I just double checked that....for some reason I was thinking that they didn't have the GRID style tail lights..

Look in the interior... there should be IROC-Z badges on the dash, shifter(?) if a 5-speed, and possibly the steering wheel, but im not sure about the last 2. I have only a Z28, not an IROC-Z, but I have a Z28 badge on my dash right on the passenger door-side.
