There were three basic Firebird trim lines in 82-86

Firebird - base model
Firebird S/E - luxury model
Firebird Trans Am - performance model

The 82 S/E could be had with an LG4...but most probably had the V6 or the 4 banger. It's nothing special in my opinion. It had standard features like locking gas cap cover, rear wiper. You could get all that stuff on a T/A if you wanted.

About the only thing that made it different was color wheel covers that matched the paint and color inserts for the door handles. You could also get a trim colored centre console and dash.

In 87 they dropped the S/E and made the Formula, which I think is a cooler idea.

To make a '82 LG4 cowl induction functional, you have to take one off of a '83 or '84. The Crossfire's induction unit is different than the LG4. The Crossfire has a diamond shaped seal attached to the unit. The LG4 unit is flat and has a round seal attached to the air cleaner. You also need the electronics.

what about the 82 LU5 T/A hood ? should be functional version of this nonfunctional bulge hood on the LG4 82 T/A's, none of the hoods in 84 were functional that i know of

The bulge hoods are the same. The '82 LG4 Trans Ams with WS6/WS7 had the bulge hood and no induction unit, just a block off plate on the intake. The non WS6/WS7 '82 LG4 Trans Ams had the regular hood.

All '84 Trans Am had functional induction.

this 82 has rear drums, so must be WS6 then, everything a WS7 would have cept the rear discs

Just the opposite. WS7 is WS6 without the 4 wheel disc

90TA is right on about my hood. I found parts from an 83 L69 car.

This is how I made my hood functional:

My car is a WS7 - rear drums.

84 T/A LG4 and 84 T/A L69 had a functional hood. Same guts as the 83 hood.

i thought it was 82 83 functional too, i know that 84 camaros didnt get functional hoods like the 82 and 83 ones were,

suppose firebirds didnt follow camaros as far as hoods then, i thought there was no crossfire in 84...

thanks

You might be thinking of the second generation Trans Am. I believe that before 1982 there was a Tran Am S/E available.
