Weight of third gens?
Weight of third gens?
Hey guys, I am seriously looking into buying a third gen camaro, I currently own a 2nd gen, but I am finding it to be too big and heavy. I was wondering what the best year/model of camaro would be the lightest. I will be doing lots of mods to it, probably set it up for street/autocross. So stock suspension isnt really an issue, just the chassis specifications for the different years.
Thanks alot for your help, this board is great.

IMO go with an IROC-Z or Z28.

My 82 weighs in at a paultry 3078 factory curb weight. The lightest of all T/A's. I would assume the Camaro in 82 would be the lightest too.

Yup, the '82/83 cars musta been the lightest... they had the glass hoods, lighter interior materials, etc etc.

alot of 82-83 t/a's are steel hood, power bulge, mostly the 82-83 Z28's tended to have the glass hood, ive seen and had a bunch, they been going ot shredder left and right in last couple years, not so many left now, hehe, i do miss my 84 z28 though, but it had steel hood, even with being a true HO305 L69 car
stupid and pointless of GM to do... as usual in the 80's it seems.,,
at least the T/A in 82 was best handling and most aerodynamic, and i have one such car , yay
ill take my 82 to the scales when i get it roady ready hopefully this year. if they weigh 3200 stock then mine should be well under 3k with no interior or A/C or anything
good luck
