Did the earlier GTA's have "GTA" on the map pocket (in front of the passenger seat on the dash)in kinda orange colored letters? I looked at a supposed 92 GTA, I am pretty sure it was a fake. The first thing that caught my eye was the look-a-like gold diamond spoke rims, not original GTA, made by ARE. Fresh paint, no GTA emblems whatsoever, except the one on the nose, they could have got that anywhere. The dash that I mentioned was in pretty rough shape, my 90 GTA just has the bird on it. Of course no paper stuck to the inside of the console with the options list, which could have told if it was a GTA. I dont even think the console was original, it was grey and the whole interior was tan. The air cleaner ducting was the old style with the raised "ribs". And the clincher, an earlier model firebird steering wheel with no airbag. The car was at a lot, I wanted to tell the guy what I thought about his 92"GTA" but he soon disapeared into the office when I started looking at it As soon as we pulled into the car lot my wife say's "these cars look like they are probably all stollen" because it was such a hole in the wall, after looking at the GTA, Firebird, Trans-Am or whatever it was I agreed with her!
Almost forgot to mention the price, $5000.

In 91-92 the RPOs got moved to the rear locking cargo compartment, but your suspicions are probably well founded.

My 92 has a "bird" on the map pocket, smooth intake ( no ribs)

I was going to get the VIN just to see what I could come up with, but like I said, at this lot they probably would have jumped me. Thanks anyway, but I am not really concerned with it. The nose, and ground effects were definetley 91 or 92, but I highly doubt it was a 92 GTA since there were so few made.

My '92 GTA just has the bird on the pocket.

Codes are in the glove compartment and also the rear locking box thing.

It sounds like they are trying to scam people into thinking that it is a real GTA. Bogus.
