There's a kinda rusty little Formula for sale by my house, I went to take a peek today. On the powerbulge hood it says "5.0L Fuel Injection". Does this mean it's a TPI, or is TBI also considered Fuel Injection?

i had a formula parts car that said that and it was a 305 TBI.

 

kinda depends on the year I think. To be sure write down the vin # and put it on the thirdgen.org vin decoder to see if it's the LB9 or LO3.

 

I could be wrong but I think the Fuel Injection decals and door handles were only put on TPI cars.

 

Your right 87WS6. They where. Almost like the later 2nd gens. There was the ponti 400 and the olds 403. The 400 had T/A 6.6 on the shaker while the 403 had 6.6 Liter on the shaker.Pontiac wanted to advertise the (better???) fuel delivery if you will.

 

Fuel Injection door handle emblems were put on Cross-Fire cars and even the TBI Iron Duke engine.

Also if the #8 digit on the VIN# is E then it is the LO3 engine.

 

Took a closer look last night

and the winner is: TBI

 

My 1989 Formula says 5.0 FI on the hood and is a TPI, but i don't know if the TBI has the badging or not. I know for sure TPI's do. Just type in the VIN like others have said or talk to the guy who's selling it and ask him to pop the hood.


...Ooops, didn't see that you already knew it was TBI, well anyway you know now that both TPI's and TBI's have the badging.

 

I know of 2 TBI's with the FI sticker. To back up ZED's knowledge.

 

Both the TBI and TPI cars had the 5.0 FI stickers on the hood bulge. Thats why I got a 5.0 HO sticker
