Firebird seat availability

This may be a basic question for those up on options, etc..

What years (and/or models) would my style seats have been available in? I don't know if they are Firebird specific, or limited to certain years, etc. Anybody know? I'm looking for a replacement driver's side bottom front seat cushion, but don't ever seem to find this shape.

Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
Look into other GM's for seats like those, especially Pontiacs (or maybe only Pontiacs) like the Sunbirds and Grand Ams. If you need just the bottom seat part, it wouldn't matter if the reclined or not as you could swap your reclining mechanism over.
I have similar seats in my 89 Formula, and my 86 parts 'bird had the deluxe version of them with the pouch on the back of the upright.

The lower seat cushion with the leg support seems to be Firebird specific. The Grand AM/Sunbird seats usually don't have the additional support.

Look to later Firebirds.

My 87 TA has those exact seats with the pouch in the back of the upright.

Mine also have the pockets on the backs of the front seats. I was asking because they don't appear to match any of the advertised replacement covers (thirdgenresource and Hawk's). They look different to me. Bruce at Hawk's said he could get the covers for me no problem though. I just need to replace that bottom cushion you can see in the top of the pic. I'll try calling around and see if I can't locate some 'birds 87-92 in the yards before I head out to dig around. Thanks for the input.

You'll need to find an 86 or 87 to get that exact style.

The seat base is slightly different on the 84 and 85. I think the back is different too.

My 92 T/A has the same "rocker/recliner", no pocket in the back tho.

madmax,

Thanks for the years, that's what I was looking for. Just to clarify...

Does that range open up any if I disregard the pocket on the back? Since I will be recovering, I don't think that I'll be able to keep the pockets.

my '89 Grand Am LE winter beater that I paid $5 for has those seats. Don't know if they're stock, but they're power and they're in there.

Depends on what exactly you're looking for. The earlier and later seats have a slightly different design/curvature of the seat foam and possibly the frame. All will bolt up fine though, of course. If you dont care about what they look like, just use the same year parts on both sides.

Ok, understood now. I really only need to replace 1/2 of my drivers side front seat, so doing that will have me looking at 86 and 87. If that doesn't work out, I'll have to look for a front set and can broaden my search.

Thanks.

I bought a new seat because my upper seatback was cracked. I think I still have the lower, if youre interested. I'll take a look later today and see if its still floating around.

That would definately be a solution to my problems. Let me know if you've still got it around and would part with it.

Apparently the foam was bonded to a frame and is sold as a unit. The seat back foam pad was availble seperately, but not the bottom

1986-1989 Frame, Drivers Seat Cushon (with pad)(1986-88 with YR1) (1989 with B20) Part # 20427684

1986-1989 Frame, Passenger Seat Cushon (with pad)(1986-88 with YR1) (1989 with B20) Part # 20427684

90-92 use the same part for the lower cushon..

Hope that helps.

John
