Thank's for your interest on this subject, I will be picking up my 87 LT Vert in about a hour now. E-Mail has been sent with the info u requested, have u decided if u are going to do a site with pic's or just a registry with name's & car info? a lot of free site's are out there for pic hosting? If you need any assistance with your project please feel free to call on me.

Thanks and have a Great Day, I know i will!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have taken the liberty of "stickying" this post. It needs to stay at the top!

This raises a thought. I should do the same for my 1987 Z28 convertible registry which I've maintained since 1996....

I'll have to think about whether or not I want my info posted for everyone to see on the net. At the least I'll provide my first name and some pictures. Let me think about it.

Here are some pictures.

Night shot with IROC rims

Old pic after an accident when it still had a V6

After body and paint work and the LB9 swap, with Berlinetta/LT rims on.

Guys,

A registry is not posted on the internet for all to see. It is kept by one person and the personal information contained within is only released in its entirety to other members. This information would include names, addresses, contact info, etc.

General information about the cars themselves can be released to the public. This information would include exterior color, interior color, drivetrain, etc.

A sidenote on the LT convertible pictured above. Because the VIN sixth digit is a "2", it cannot be construed as a genuine factory convertible. The fact that ASC performed the conversion is irrelevant. Although its value would be higher than a hardtop of equal condition/options, it would not be as high as a VIN sixth digit "3" car. BTW, all "3" convertibles in 1987 received the "20th Anniversary Commemorative Edition" map pocket.

87 convertible can you tell me more about this.......................

****UPDATE*****

Spent several hr's searching history of convertibles and found the thread where this was explained, It might be good to post this thread as a link for anyone new so they can know what is meant by the statement. I found it to very very useful information!!!

Willie if you read this can you tell me if my vert would be included in the count of SC coupes for the year since it is not a vin # 3 car?

Just trying to get a better understanding of where the vert's that were made like mine fall in place at as far as count goes?

No I wouldn't say they are worth anymore than anything else per say. They just make for a good conversation piece since it was a one year model in the thirdgen years.

Luxury Touring I beleive. Soft suspension. Its just like a berlinetta
but without the star wars dash. Even the opitional aluminum wheels are like the berlinetta exept there silver.

i believe it's more than suspension, my lt came with factory driving lights, a 6 way power drivers seat, power mirrors on both doors, cruise control, tilt steering, ect, basicly all the bells and whistles, and the wheels were just like the berlinetta, as they were gold in color.

This will help end some of the confusion as to what exactly the LT was. Attached is the 1987 option sheet. Sorry about the poor resolution.

The car has been garage kept all it's life and currently has 210,000 miles without a problem and still looks like it rolled off the showroom floor. The interior is all original and has no rips or stains, it's not even faded, the motor runs very strong with the mods I've done. I love that car!

Thats true, the poor old base model camaro's are fading away. I still love the look of a plain old camaro without ground effects fixed up as an SS. Looks old school

Are you guys still looking for LT in?

Hi there. I have an 87 LT and would like to chat it up with other fellow LT owners and provide some info on the car.

My car was purchased originally from a local Chevy dealer in 1993 with 65,000 original miles. Belonged to a cop's wife before. The car was in great shape when I took delivery of it. Until two years later when the paint/clear coat began to go bad.

The car began to fail in 1999 so I decided it was time to restore it and modify/upgrade it. The plan was and is too keep the body including paint and stripes as original as possible including the interior. The engine, transmission, rear end, exhaust, suspension and brakes were going to remain Chevy.

Things done to the car so far:

1. Installed SLP headers, 3" cat, and a dual 2.5 outlets at rear.

2. Removed the stock suspension and replaced it with the 1LE springs and stabalizer bars 36mm front & 24mm rear.

3. Installed new 17x9.5 1992 Firehawk wheels.

4. Replaced the 85 mph spedo with the 145 mph.

5. Brakes will be upgraded to 1LE's as soon as I get more $$

6. The 18 gallon fuel tank is next if I can find one in great condition without the broken internal plastics.

8. Rear end will become 3.42 Auburn limited slip.

9. Replaced the single snorkle air cleaner with a H.O. dual one.

So far, it has yeilded great results. And I know it's best to keep a car like the LT as original as can be. I did keep the stock silver rims it came with. They pale in comparrison with the new Ronal's.

wow, do you have any pics of this car? these are all the things i would love to do to an LT if i ever come across another one. my current sportcoupe is setup for drag racing, i wouldn't mind making another one that looks similiar, but is setup for handling and comfort (mine doesn't the HVAC system anymore or anything really) check out my cardomain and Walter Racecraft for pics and more info.

Well I will post pics as soon as I can. I want to do a before and after thing. I have the pics of the car when i first got it (side profiles really) and the after with the bad paint (thanks to GM and the EPA) Well before the car went into restoration mode, the handling was a bit rough with the new suspension, but i'll tell you this much, it took those curves at the track and freeway very well. Other than that, I did manage to get the car up to 130 mph once. And this was with the stock 14" wheels and tires. I have the Bose system in the car, but i did add the 6x9's in the sail panel areas and on the top of the dash pad where the stock radios normally have their speakers.

Hmmm, what else....I do run the car on synthetic mobil one. And as for the 305 rebuild, I would love to have a ZR-1 engine installed as I saw on some camaro performance book.

I'm not exactly an expert on the subject but I think the LT name dates back to around 1973. In second Gen's it was called a "Type LT" I know they made them in 1973-1977. The Z/28 name was dropped in 1975, but came back in 77, and I think when they changed to the enduro nose in 78, They dropped the "LT" and just called it "Berlinetta". If someone knows the whole story behind the "LT" name and the Berlinetta name, please....chime in.

Basically, I think the "LT" name took over after GM discontinued using the "Berlinetta" name after the 1986 Model year. They just used the "LT" name for 87, and then dropped it completely in 88, when they brought back the "RS" nameplate.

I used to have an LT. Its probably part of that soda/beer can you are drinking out of. I had to junk it a few years back. I was in the middle of a restore on it and I lost the garage I had rented for it because it was reserved for winter. I tried everything to keep it but I just moved 4 hrs away from where I had it stored and just started a new job. It was ripped apart. I had no way to get back to put it back together. I even did a 2.8-3.4 swap on it. I just got another camaro. Its a 91 tho.

Re: All 87 Camaro LT owners

I was digging around on here and how do you determine the LT from the base coupe

I think I might own one but I can't get to the rpo codes right now.

Re: All 87 Camaro LT owners

Your LT would have RPO B4E. That was the option code. IROC was B4Z.

Re: All 87 Camaro LT owners

Does anyone have knowledge of how many 87 IROC Z350s were produced? I understood that Chevy did not start producing these until late in the model year (January) and quit production in May. I understood these were a limited production the first year and Chevy was going to produce something less than 1000 cars with the 350 engine in 87.

Re: All 87 Camaro LT owners

Hi, I was looking at some old threads and spotted this one. If I can find my VIN, I'll add it, but the car was sold (still on the road) and it's in Ontario, I'm in Victoria BC Canada. In 1991 bought a used 1987 Camaro LT, 5spd with a 2.8 and a T Roof, it was mint. It was the best car I ever had. It did not have AC, only the non air vents mounted on each side of the front passenger area but with the T Roof off, who needed air. I lost the car in a divorce with my X in 1997, but spent from 2002 until now trying to replace it. So far I have not been able to find any LT's that did not have AC and I wanted the same one I "lost", T Roof w no AC. I'm curious, but has anyone else found one without AC. The 1987 sales brouchere says the LT had AC as standard eqpt. (I picked up a really nice 1987 Sports Coupe, and although it is not the LT, it's as close as I'm going to find). Great thread, still the nicest Camaro Chevy ever built, and only for one year. Really to bad.
Thanks

Re: All 87 Camaro LT owners

Hi my name is Tony Bruno I have an 87 LT that I purchased in 1993 it currently has 88,000 miles and is in excelent condition over the years I have modified the car but tried to keep it looking as stock as possible. The interior is original carmine red and has all the bells and whistles it has t-tops and the fog light option. I'm looking for the LT emblems that are located on the quarter panels I removed mine along time ago and I want to put them back on. If any one has a set in good condition please e-mail at info@anthonysautosalon.com thanks
