Smog Law Attempt

Hey Fellow 3rd Gen members

I would like to ask the moderator to make this a sticky for a few weeks so everyone can read it. It deals with smog emissions testing and older vehicles.

This is an update of the one I sent a week or two ago.
Included with this copy is the letter for you to send to the two person’s listed below.
I figure if I included a letter that is already formatted to say what it is supposed to say, then more people would participate and send it in. Don’t let them get away with this guy’s! The document is on the last page of this document.

Smog Emissions Testing and Older Vehicles
· The present law requires all vehicles 30 years old and newer to be tested for smog emissions. That's fair.
· The proposed new law requires all cars regardless of age to be tested for smog emissions. That's not fair!

Please help me and other older car owners. Copy the message at the end of this the message and send it to the two people listed below:
· Assemblywoman Sally Lieber: (Assemblywoman.Lieber@assembly.ca.gov) Sally is the "Assemblywoman" that's proposing this bill. Not good, we need to tell her so!
· Steve McDonald: (stevem@sema.org) Steve works for SEMA (Specialty Equipment Manufacturing Association: Represents SEMA in the U.S. congress as a 'lobbyist'. Steve is our friend, understands our hobby, he's on 'our side'.
Lets get this bill defeated, before it’s to late!

Thanks for your help.

Joe Shawn

Message to the State of California:
California's current emissions testing exemption recognizes the
minimal impact of vehicles 30-years old and older on vehicle
emissions and air quality.

Vehicles 30-years old and older make up only a small portion of the overall vehicle population and are a poor source from which to look for emissions reduction.

Antique and classic vehicles are overwhelmingly well-maintained and infrequently driven: Less than one-third the miles each year as a new vehicle.

Legislators and regulators are feeling the heat from a failed effort
to meet air quality goals and are looking for a convenient scapegoat.

The old car hobby should not carry the burden of their mistakes!

I would love to see my 68 firebird pass CA emissions with a 455 it would fail in a heartbeat especialy if it had to pass the current test they have for new cars.

So fast RS I take it you will be sending in your 2 cents worth?

I sure hope so!

Can you imagine them telling you you can not drive your car anymore because you modified it with other than original equipment therefore you do not qualify for any exemptions? So now you have a track or off road vehicle only! Sounds like what a communist country would do.

Think about it!

My letter to that *itch

I have no problem with making smog laws more strict we both breathe the same air. But i own a classic car how will it pass smog? The CA smog laws today are tough enough for cars from the 70's and 80's how can my 1968 Firebird pass smog it could not pass by todays current standards even though it has not been modified in any way. Are you basically saying that i will not be able to drive my car on the street because it is too old? This law that you want to pass is unfair to classic car owners. Do you own a classic car? I dought you do you probably drive a brand new car that can pass smog with no problem. Also are you aware that 4 cylinder cars will have no problem passing smog but 6 and 8 cylinder cars will have a harder time passing. Also how is a classic car supposed pass smog when there were no smog laws back then and has no smog equipment on it. Think about this before you push this law it has been pushed before and failed and it will always fail why don't you focus on health care or something important not smog laws.

Sincerely

David Marks

Hey Fast RS

I love it! That is a great letter! Send it in. I'd even leave the top part in just redo it slightly to include her title before the word Bit&h. ie; To: Honorable Assemblywoman " B*_^h!"
All in all you have a good gripe and your letter shows what most of our frustrations are like.

Thanks for the support!

The off chance it does pass, you could always register the car in Canada

I hope it doesn't pass though... you could almost say goodbye to the old car hobby if it is passed. Damn beureaucrats.

Air ADAM,

I agree, there is always at least one person that always wants to ruin something for everyone else just because they can't do it or whatever!

i love how they target the state with all the old clean vehicles,

lovely..
