There were several companies that offered conversions on Camaros as early as 1983. Autoforms is but one of them. Almost all of these companies' conversions eliminated the rear seat and yes, the tops on these cars were hideous.

Is this car rare? Probably. But it is NOT a factory convertible so desirability is the issue, not rarity. What's it worth? There is no book value. It's definitely a gray area -- the market will dictate this.

The simulated woodgrain applique is aftermarket and like the convertible conversion, several companies make their own. One is still available thru Classic Industries and is offered in different wood grains. The one in this car is one of the "cheaper" kits. The woodgrain does not encircle the power window/hatch release buttons as does the nicer kits. It appears the applique on the stereo/heater is made of three pieces instead of one and is lacking the horizontal piece across the top of the heater controls. The better kit's part is one solid piece.

First Iroc I've ever seen done as a two seater. Most of the are sport coupes or Z28's. Interesting that it was a hard top originally, not a T-Top, no CC1.

The top and third brake light are ugly, though.

By the time you look at the condition of the car, and the current price....I'd say it's worth it.

Even if some guy did it in his basement last week, it's still a Iroc vert, it's still in nice condition, and it's still gonna turn heads at a stoplight.

I don't know why people think that those things are so ugly. I really like them, and think that the camaros look pretty good as two seaters. The top is not that bad.

It looks good with the top down, but horrible with the top up. It's too bad they had to keep the third brake light. If I bought it I'd put an 87 Iroc spoiler on it and get rid of the brake light on the deck lid.

I for one am one that likes that conversion. A couple things on it that I dont:

#1: Snaps all over the decklid area
#2: Third brake light (Definately an area for improvement with an 87+ rear spoiler)
#3: The silver hinges for the trunk (Seems to me that they could've devised a hidden hinge to make it look less...........

Overall I love the appearance. I actually like it with the top on, better actually than a 88+ Convertible Camaro! Call me wierd, but I like it.

A few things I'd improve upon but overall I like. If you've ever seen them in person, they're actually quite neat looking. Oh yeah, a 91-92 Highrise would DEFINATELY be going on it if it were mine!

Yeah, I own one of those Two seater conversion, a firebird one albeit, but I kind of lucked out...Mine doesn't have the third brake light so I don't have to monkey with that...

As for that trunk w/ it's hinges, I would gladly get rid of that. As funny as it may seem, Marks Custom kits who sells the parts to do Knight Rider conversions recently turned an autoform into a Kitt replica, and has decided to sell the rear cover for Autoform's re-made to leave out the trunk hatch. When I've got the spare $2000 to do it, I'll probably end up getting it...

Well, according to my friend, I don't own a "true" sports car beacuse it has more than 2 seats. I'd get it just to have that title, without being one of those Corvette people. You know what I mean.

I didn't notice this back when the ad was posted, but I like the way they took the IROC-Z logo from Jim's website (iroczone.com)

Different Car

Here is one on EBay now, This is not as nice as the IROC-Z that i originally posted about, However it will give you an example of the overall look of the Car. This owner does not seem to know much about the car as he state's it is ASC conversion, To my knowlege all conversions of this type were done by a Company called Auto Form located in Indiana, If that is not correct someone please chime in as i would hate to give false info. out !!!!!!!

Thanks

Convertible

P.S. If you want a pic of the original send me your email and i will forward to you , I have it saved on disc somewhere!!!!!!

This is very strange for several reasons: 1.) It looks like a AutoForm conversion, much like my 83 Z28, but I believe that Autoform was out of business by 1988. 2. GM was producing factory convertibles in 1988. 3. It is an 88 and I would guess that ASC could have, for enough money, produced a two seater as an aftermarket conversion. I have sent ASC an e-mail to see if they would answer this question.
