original or tampered?

i just won a 115mph gauge cluster off of ebay. i'm not sure if its original because it has a v6 tach and oil gauge. I know that the gauges would work in a v8 but the tach would read 25% off. i have an autometer tach working properly so i'm not worried about the tach, i just wasn't sure if its original or not? i know v8 models came w/ 60 psi and a 5.5k redline. this has 80 psi and 6k redline.

kinda fishy,what do you think?

I think the 115 was the base, I think the only other option was the 145 mph for camaros in 90-92.

okfoz,

so if you had a base 89 v6 camaro you could get/it came with a 115mph speedo?

I thought tpi z28s and irocs came w/ the 115 speedo between 87-89 and the 350 iroc could be had w/ a 145?

any body else wanna take a stab at this? feel free to correct me

thanks,
brandon

IF the speedos are anything like the Firebird, then:
82-87 85 mph speedo
86-92 140 mph speedo
88-92 120 mph speedo.

I would assume from looking at firebirds that in 1989 the base speedo would have been somewhat similar... could be wrong tho.

I do know that the Camaro retained the cable driven speedo till 1989 or 1990, but the firebird went to a electronic speedo in 1986 EXCEPT for those cars not equiped with the gage package, they got a mech cable speedo.

BTY, what difference would it make if it was tampered or not, since its not originaly from your car, change the speedo and its considered "tampered" by some.

hope that helps

John

Yes. What I saw pictured came from a 1988-1989 V6 Camaro/RS. It did NOT come in an IROC-Z.

I thought tpi z28s and irocs came w/ the 115 speedo between 87-89 and the 350 iroc could be had w/ a 145?

Fact (1987):
All speedos were all 85-mph units with a V6 and LG4 V8 regardless of model. With a 305 TPI or 350, the 145-mph speedo was used.

Fact (1988-89):
The 115-mph unit replaced the 85-mph speedo in 1988 as the "base" speedo. All V6 Camaros got the 6,000 rpm redline tach. All 1988-1989 305 TBI IROC-Z's got the 115-mph speedo. All 1988-1989 350 Camaros got the 145-mph speedo.

What I cannot guarantee (1988-89): 305 TPI IROC-Zs>> I do not know if these coupes and convertibles came with the 115 or 145-mph. Furthermore, I do not know if G92 had anything to do with the speedo for these years.
