Is this 92 worth $4300?

Well this weekend I bought a nice firebird with 71,000 miles, as it turned out someone commited some odometer fraud, so I told the guy I wasn't going to take it (lost half my deposit too). Thats another story though.

So this deal pops up, it seems kind of expensive, but its a 91-92 305, 5spd, t-toped car which is what I really want.

Red, 1992 RS, 77,000 miles, 5spd, t-tops, 305, driver seat ripped everything else is good, 20k on clutch. Not sure about interior color or power options.
1st owner, garaged, never driven in winter (or so he claims), no rust)
Driver seat is torn.

Anyway, he wants $4300 for it (claims it worth more because its a 25th (load of bull)), think its worth it? I was thinking about $3500-$4000 would be more reasonable.

Yeah it's worth it. Also, if it's a true 25th anniversery car, it is worth more. Now that the heritage cars are becoming harder to find, the value has gone up on them. I think it's kelly blue book or something like that and the difference in price between a standard camaro and the anniversery cars(in good shape) is rediculous.

If you can though see if you can talk him down in price. More cash for you in the end.

Ok, so it's not kelly blue book but there is a ste similar to it and it shows that the value of the anniversy cars are actually going up. I'll see if I can find it to show the difference in price.

Also, Willie might know. He was the one that actually showed me the site.

Sorry, but the 25th Ann. cars were a joke. I mean, a 305tbi car is not what I would have pictured. I know a guy who has a '92 25th. Although he hasn't taken the best care of it, it's not that great. I wouldn't trade my IROC for a 305 "heritage" car. Don't want a war guys, just saying that the 25th Ann. cars don't hold a candle to the "Camaro that never was." That car was incredible. It's a crying shame that GM didn't go through with it.(I know, the war was going on, just saying.) That car ran 13.50's. They were only going to produce six hundered and some. Can't remember the exact #, but it was the # of Z-28's made in 1969.

Edit: Sorry, didn't mean to rant there. To each his own bro. See sig. If you like the car, buy it. But I think you could get a much better car for $4300.

Well I want a 91-92 because I like the look, and need the airbag for insurance purposes. I would consider a 90 Iroc if I found one I could actually afford, thats about it. I also want a 5spd and t-tops, if I found a z28 with that I would be very happy but it won't happen.
So basically I would love an Iroc and realize I could get a decent one for this money, but it just isn't going to happen. So i'm trying to figure out if this is worth it.

What is "the camaro that never was" I never heard that expression before.

There was a prototype car that never made it to the production line. Only two exist in the world. They were supposed to be the 25th Anniversary Edition cars. They had a 350 with aluminum heads, beefy cam, siamesed runners, and a T-56 tranny. All this was tucked underneath an RS shell. GM decided not to produce them b/c at the time, we were in the first gulf war, and the demand for a gas guzzler like this didn't exist. Only 602 were to be built, but it never happened. I'll try to find a pic for ya. There is a couple mags out there that have the article. Btw, I believe the price tag was gonna be somewhere around $28,000.

seems a little high to me. my 90 iroc cost me 3 grand with 72xxx on the clock. bring him down closer to 3800, then i would start considering it.

I researched it a bit. Your right on with that 3800, its worth about 3900 if its in pretty good shape, has all the power stuff, and the F41 suspention.
I don't see him going that low though, so the search continues. Although I will call him in a couple weeks and see if he has changed his mind because I doubt its going to sell at the price he wants.

Ok, so I found the info that I was looking for. Basically what I said was that something has changed in the auto industry and the price of the heritage cars are going up. I'll give you 2 examples. First one is going to be a 91 RS with 71,000 miles. Here is the report:

April 29, 2004
1991 Chevrolet Camaro
Coupe 2D RS
71,000 miles

Low Retail Average Retail High Retail
Base Price $2,275 $3,200 $3,900

Mileage Adjustment
71,000 miles add: $227 $227 $227

Total Price $2,502 $3,427 $4,127

Now here is the same but in 92 with the heritage package:

1992 Chevrolet Camaro
Rally Sport 2 Door Coupe (*)

(*) HERITAGE EDITION
MSRP
Original Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price when new N/A
Low Retail Average Retail High Retail
Base Price $8,000 $11,450 $14,900

Total Price $8,000 $11,450 $14,900

Now all of this info can be seen on the nadaguides.com web site. So even though the heritage edition was a joke, it still has some value and what ever you end up paying for the car, your still making out in the deal.

Why is everyone concerned about mileage on these 3rd Gen Cars?? These cars are from 22 to 12 yrs old and were bought to drive. Not to save for a another generation of car buyers who may have been in diapers when these cars were first made. A original owner of 1987 IROC-Z with a 98000 miles and I am not saving it for anybody. Just my opinion about prices and mileage.

Are all 92's 25th anniversary cars? He never mentioned "heritage edition", just said it was a 25th anniversary.

What are you talking about? Noone is telling you not to drive your car. But the more milage a car has, the less its worth, and usually it means it has more wear on it.

Again these are not late model cars with 40k put on in 2/3 yrs but older cars that averaged 10,000 miles a year. And yes, when my odometer turns over I will also have a low mileage IROC.

If you had a choice between a 200 mile 89 Iroc, and a 150,000 mile 89 Iroc which one would you choose?

I would keep my 87 IROC. And I would say ( your example), the
Dummy that kept a 89 IROC( 200 miles) for all those years to get back less then what he paid, for so some young kid could have a low mileage car.

I can see now that this Post is going down the drain, so close it.

Its not going down the drain unless you or someone else sends it there. So lets not close it, and rather have someone tell me if there is a differance between a 25th anniversary car and a herritage car.

All 92 Camaros are considered 25th Anniversary cars. Of those, there were Heritage Edition models. The Heritage Edition will bring a higher sticker for 1 reason and one reason only. It was a special edition. Almost all special edition cars bring a higher value than the regular production.

Also, I don't think anyone is trying to get a low mileaged car for the collectibility standpoint. It's just common sense that a lower mileaged car could be less beaten and in better shape. That's not always the case, but it is the majority.

Alright, I don't think its a herratige he just thinkgs it worth more because it says 25th anniversary.
How did the herritage work, is there a herritage rs, and a herritage z28, or is it just a herritage? And how would you tell the differance, stripes on the hood?

There's both the Heritage RS and the Heritage Z28 and the only things that seperated them from the regular RSs/Z28s were the stripes.

Oh and a regular '92 RS aren't anything special like the heritages are just because its' a anniversary edition.

There's a little more than just the stripes, but not much. The cars were restricted to certain colors. In the second half of 92, 2 more heritage colors were added, green with gold and Purple with silver. They also got the 16" rims (I think), headlight pockets painted black, color matched front grill, a rear badge on the spoiler and a special RPO code (Z03). It's the Z03 rpo code that will make the car worth more. If it was just additional show items, they wouldn't be worth any more than regular, but because they carry a special rpo code, they'll be worth more.

I truly believe that will play a part in the value of the 85-87 IROC-Zs also. The RPO code B4Z was only used for 3 years and on the top of the line model. That makes it a special edition car. A 92 Z28 with Z03 will also carry high $$ someday because of the top end model carrying a special edition RPO code

It being a 25th car is worthless as a selling feature. EVERY 92' Camaro had the "25th" badge on the dash. Whoppie!

The Z03 cars are a little different, but as mentioned earlier are just stripes, black headlamp pockets and body colored grille for the RS cars, and there were 8,192 made in all. Not a big deal, but kinda cool. Nothing that adds any real value at this point. I would love to find a polo green/tan stripe one, not so much for the rarity but that I love that combination.

If you look at CraZ's post, note that the figures for the 92 heritage car is the Original Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price when new . Which means a whole lot of nothing today.

I have a feeling its just another 92.
Actually, I never asked him if it was a z28 or rs, if I find out its a z28 i'm going to grab it, and if its a herritage rs I will consider it. But I don't think any z28's got a 5spd and t-tops.

Lets see what he wants for it a week from now.
Thanks for the info guys, I know what a herritage edition is now

Yeah there are also certain colors/stripes and such but basically they are no different powertrain wise than the regular versions, that's all I'm saying.

PyRo9862
There were Z28's with the T-top 5spd combo just that they only came with the 305.

**keepin' fingers crossed**:lala: oh and not too sure about what I had said previously but one other thing about the t-top 5spd thing it was the lower output 305(non rpo g92 car) that had the combo.I could be wrong though in what I interpreted from my Camaro whitebook.

quote from book:
RPO CC1(removable roof panels)not available with rpo g92 performance axle,or with Z28 coupe with 5speed manual transmission.
