Production numbers on L69??
Does anyone have the production numbers on 84 Trans Am's with the L69, 3.73's without posi, 4 wheel disc but then also all of the luxury interior equipment and the rear wiper with defrost? I'm just going off RPO's and I'm deciding if I should restore my '84 back to original or put in all of the performance parts I have sitting in my garage (383, new fully prepped 700r4, posi, cage, etc.). If its any kind of oddity I'd restore it, I'd appreciate any information available.
thanks,
Ryan

I do not know the numbers on the car, but back in November of 84 the dealer I was looking at to buy an 84 Trans Am had about a dozen of the 84 H.O. cars all without the posi in them. They had the 4 wheel disc but no posi due to a production hold at the end of model year. I suspect the numbers might be higher than you think. I was all set to buy one until I found out they did not have a posi, so I bought a 85 5-spd with the H.O. instead.

All I know is I have a early 84 L69 with posi and a t5 and haven't seen another around here. Early 3rd gens are getting rare around the north east. Emitions laws and rust are killing them. saw a T/A today at wallmart trashed the carpet was hanging out the hole in the floor

I don't know if this information will help or not, but here's what I can find:
The 1984 Trans Am had 2 engine and 3 rear axle options. The L69 Engine had the 3.73 with a manual transmission and 3.42 with the automatic. There were 18,037 automatics and 7,051 manuals built with the L69 engine. There were 55,734 Trans Ams made this year.
Up until I saw the post from GTADave, I had never heard of a non-posi Trans Am. Plus from this website http://userweb.suscom.net/~jasonroge...ionnumbers.htm I ran across this information:
The Trans Am debuted in 1969 and had several special features that were standard. 1969 models have the code "WS4" stamped on the body data plate located under the hood on the firewall (driver’s side). Posi-traction rear axles were always standard on Trans Am models. Power steering, disc brakes, rear spoilers, and on 1970-81 models either a shaker or Turbo-style hood was standard. 1970-78 models either had a 400 or 455 V8 as standard equipment. 1970-81 models all had 15" wheels as standard equipment.
Hope this helps.

I'll admit that I am far from an expert, but I have owned my 85 for the last 15 years and have researched what I could on the net about it. It sounds to me like your car is an uncommon one, you don't happen to have the window sticker on it do you? Too bad that the VIN won't tell you what axle it came with. I'd be tempted to restore it if I owned it, but I'm a bit of a 3rd gen nut. I spent $4500 getting my 85 back on the road after having stored it after a winter driving accident that dinged the passenger front and rear corners 4 years ago. It may not be as fast as the newer models out there, but it was one of the faster cars around back when I got it. The more I've found out about the L69's, the more happy I've been with the car I own.

Re: Production numbers on L69??
I bought a 1984 Trans Am with the V-8 305 H.O. with a 5 Speed manual including the aero package a month and a half ago, and it is Black/Gold. It only has 78,000 original miles on it.
I plan on keeping it all original, and enjoy driving it and showing it at car shows.

Welcome aboard dfscycle.
Sounds like a great car. I'd love to see some pictures of it. You might want to start your own thread about it.

Re: Production numbers on L69??
Hello ~~ Here is a recent picture of my 84 Trans Am. I took it to a car show in Citrus Heights Ca. this last Saturday.
I did not know they only made 26 305 H.O. in 1986
