Any Difference Between 84 and 85 Z28

Ok this is starting to bother me... I have been looking at pictures of 84 and 85 Z28s, and they seem to look a little bit different in body style, espically at the back end... but I cant decide if its just the cars im looking at. Do any of you know if their is a difference in body style... I appologize for the inconveince but its just one of those things you cant get out of your head.

There are big differences between the 2 as already mentioned: ground efx,the nose was changed and the interior somewhat.

Anyone else notice that 84Z has an 85-90 rear bumper and 1/4 gfx??

I do like the 82-84 Z's, if the color, wheel combo, and ride height is working together.

And you noticed a difference in the rear because the taillights are different. The '85 had two horizontal grids(at least, the IROCs and Zs did--not sure about the other models) instead of one like the '82-'84.

I'm not sure I see what you mean Dante. That body and gfx looks perfectly normal for an '82-'84, except for the blacked-out taillights and no stripes.

Look closely, he used an 85-90 rear bumper and rear 1/4 peices instead of the stock 82-84 rear. If you compare the amount of silver on the rear end with the sides/front, you'll see it. Compare it also to another 82-84 Z.

One other way to tell is by the curve (or lack of) on the rear bumper. If you look at the side profiles, an 82-84 has a slight curve/roll look where the back bumper almost curves under the car. The 85-90 rear bumper is more defined and almost forms a corner.

Here's an example:

I noticed it also.

The 85-90 GFX were wider than the 82-84. It looks good on this car, but it is not the correct rear bumper cover

That just might be the best 84 Z I've ever seen a picture of, and those wheels are awesome. Normally I prefer stock rims to aftermarket, but those look killer on that car. Anyone know who makes them?

Also the hood. The pre 85 Z had indentations in the middle (the crossfires had the flaps that open). The 85-90 Z hood had the louvers, and 91-92 had the same hood as 85-90 but had the blisters bolted in instead of the louvers

'85 is also when they changed the taillights to what I call the checkerboard lights or tic-tac-toe lights with the lines running from top to bottom and left to right.

The main difference on the front fascia is that on the '85 cars the park/turn signal lamps aren't near as recessed. The '84 front has much harder angular lines. In '85 it was "softened" up. On the rear fascia there is a recessed area where the "Z28" nameplate goes. I've seen too many '82-'84 Z28's where the Z28 nameplate gets put back on the rear fascia and it's misplaced. Usually all the way over to the right!
