1985 t/a.....

Ok, so here's the scoop. My uncle just bought that car and he is selling it to me and my bro in a little while. The car needed a bit of work (he is a mechanic) and when the car runs perfectly and is safetied, its ours. Anyways, what I want to know is how can I tell if it is a WS6?? I'm thinking it is because it has the "performance tuned suspension" emblem infront of the passenger. I know that with the WS6 option you get bigger front and back sway bars, gas shocks, upgraded rims?? And there are a few more things, cant quite remember them. So how can I tell if it actually is a WS6?? Thanks for any help guys.

Quite simply actually. Look on your RPO sticker (most are in the center console) and see if it says WS6.

Look for 4 wheel disk brakes.

If you still have the stock rims, they will be 16" x 8"

These are the two fastest and easiest ways to tell in the case of the 1985 WS6 Trans Am....

The emblem you refer to was also included as part of the Y99 suspension option, so it is not a WS6 exclusive.

Well guys, I guess that will help me out quite a bit. Now all I have to do is go to my uncle's and get the RPO codes (i noticed before that they were still in the center console) and then I can check them on this website's decoder (gotta love that option). Anyways, thanks alot guys for the replies and if anyone else has any more input, give 'er. I'll keep you guys posted about the car...

The four wheel disks are not ws6 exclusive. My sister inlaws 85 has rear disks with 15" wheels and no WS6.

Actually, since you are in Canada, you can take the VIN to a GM dealer, and they can print off a sheet with all the RPOs for that car.

Didn't cost me anything... I just took the VIN to the dealer and asked them if they could print off the RPO list for it. Can only do this in Canada though.

I think its because GM got rid of all of its records of cars made before a certain date (not sure what date though, mid '90s I think) to clean out their computer system, but GM Canada did not, so the records of Canadian-sold 3rdgens still exist on their computers.

Actually, since you have a Pontiac, you should try to contact Pontiac Historical Services. I don't know how to contact them, but someone else here will know.
