For all you John Kerry fans

I wasn't sure where to post this, so I picked this section. I found it on the Corvette forum, but it would apply to Camaros (third gens, etc.) as well.

Quote:
"SCRAPPAGE IS DEFEATED ON U.S. SENATE FLOOR!"

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Car hobbyists and related businesses scored a major victory yesterday when the U.S. Senate voted to approve an amendment sponsored by Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-CO) to remove old car scrappage language from the "Energy Policy Act of 2002."

The vehicle scrappage provision (Section 822 of S. 517) would have created a new U.S. Department of Energy bureaucracy to federally fund state-run scrappage programs for vehicles over 15 years old. Under the program, owners who turned in vehicles for crushing would have received a cash payment and a credit toward purchasing a newer vehicle, in an ostensible attempt to improve the overall fuel economy of the country's vehicle fleet. The scrappage provision would have denied automotive aftermarket businesses the availability of older cars necessary to market products and services. It also threatened vehicle enthusiasts nationwide with the loss of valuable parts and parts-cars for repair, restoration, and customization projects.

The Sponsor of this Bill was Tom Dashele(D-SD)

The Co-Sponsor of this Bill was John Kerry(D-MA)

I think this is a very appropriate place for this, considering if it would have passed, we would only have a History section left on this board that would be relevant.

Glad to see it got rejected.....:hail:

However I do believe that if you take your old car to a junkyard and allow it to be used for parts, you should get some sort of tax credit when buying a new car.....

More cars in junkyards, where people can get their hands on parts..........

I know in some states, I think MO is one of them, if they have an older car they get more credit for crushing them than a newer car.

I had a friend go to MO looking for 1967 Olds parts, and all the junkyards would say we get more for crushing them than trying to save them for parts ...

It takes absolutely everything in my power not to start an argument. Let's not discuss politics here.

I second that........... Let's not get into this. This is a tech board, not a fox news message board.
