Odds of this IROC being a good buy w/350?

Hello everyone...

There is an Iroc-Z28 down the street for sale that needs some TLC.
I went by and it has duals coming out the muffler, iroc-badges, a TPI in front of a 700R4, louvers on the hood, but it has rear drum brakes(?). No one was there to answer questons. I called the guy, who was an azz by the way, and he said it was an 89. It has the older round gauges and older ground fx. (Just camparing to 90-92 fx and gauges.) So I'm sure it's an 89...
I'm going to take a look at it today after work. But what are the chances of it being a 350? Odds of motor size being a 350 and rear having a posi and decent gear???

Thanks for any info you can give...

Maybe the tags just say Iroc-Z, after reading some other posts.
Does anyone know which one of these probably came with rear drum brakes?

Slim, if it has drum brakes it is a 305TPI and 10-bolt 2:73 ( may have a limited Slip). Or check the 8th digit of the VIN for engine type (F) 305 TPI or (8) 350 TPI. Just beware if the seller claims its a 350, just do a lot of research.

That's what I was afraid of... dang...
Yeah, I was planning on checking the vin to determine the motor size.

I have seen it mentioned here many times that the disc brakes were on option on the 350. I can't say whether that's true or not. I know in 87, the 350 got rear discs mandatory, but 89 is unknown to me.

Ive never heard of a 350 car coming with rear drum brakes. As far as I know since they were available in 87 they automatically came with rear discs.

Do some research. There were 350 cars that came with drums. The most notable was in 91. As I said, I'm not sure if discs were mandatory with the 350 or not, except in 87. I do know that it was mandatory in 87.

If memory serves, wouldn't the rear bumper say "5.7 Tuned Port Fuel Injection"??? Also the VIN would have an 8 in the 8th didget

Rear Drums debate. I have never seen them with the 350, but like stated above, 91 they had a problem with supply so several got Aluminum Drums (which are as good as disks for fading).

The fact that it does have Drums in 89... I would say 98% chance its a 305

that gives me a 2% leverage...
