1989 GTA Identify Plz
Okay yesterday on my way through a town bout an hour from me, i looked over at a four way intersection and there was a white GTA sitting on the side of the road, it had for sale on the window, I slid my car sideways trying to get to it and scared my gf half to death. Anyway on to the rest of the story. I parked down a lil and went to look at it, and i noticed the front fender on the passenger side was dented, then looked down and saw a ta fender vent, i said thats not right, so i walked to the drivers side, and it had the fender vent also. Alright it has the following that i saw, cuz i called the number no one answered, It had four wheel disc, GTA wheels, GTA emblems, Ultima Seats, Molded Door Panels, 140 Speedo, stereo buttons on steering wheel. Now the question i want to know is is there any other way to identify from the outside if its a real GTA, or will i have to keep calling and look at the RPO codes?
By the way they had $2,000.00 wrote on the winshield.
any help would be great, i dont want to miss out if it is one....

No, there is no real way to tell a GTA's authenticity without the RPO code.... but that either sounds like a GTA that got repaired with Trans Am parts to me, or a Trans Am that got "upgraded". Practically all the "good" GTA equipment, save for the exterior stuff, was readily available on Trans Ams as factory options.
And as we all know, emblems and wheels are not hard to come by these days. Still, for $2K it bears a closer look, IMO. You might not go wrong either way.

If it is just a T/A then it would still be worth it for 2000 if its in good shape

maybe if you looked at the door panels? they were an option on t/a's, but most likely if the interior hasn't been tampered with and it's got the regular door panels then its not a gta...

Without getting in the car a couple GTA only things to look for are.
1st. the word Pontiac on the drivers side headlight will be in gold insted of silver ,same go's with the bird in the back between the tail lights. The steering wheele radio controls are a GTA option also and if you can look under the car and see the driveshaft, most GTA's got an aluminum one.
Also what does the map pocket have sewed on it?GTA's got a gold bird or GTA sewed into it.Reguardless like said above $2000 is not a bad price for a clean TA and if it's in fact a GTA then that would be a bonus. Also if it is a GTA then check for damage that wasn't fixed when the fenders were replaced.
