Little RPO help please...

I have read in a few places that all 15th Anniversary Trans Am models came with "WS6"

I don't see it anywhere on the label though.

It was recently determined that this car I have truly is a 1984 15th Anniversary car.

Now I am confused. (not surprisingly...)

Here are some RPO label pics I snapped;

PICS are hard to read so here are all the codes:

Thats very interesting. My old 15th anniversary had WS6 listed on the RPO list on the underside of the console lid. Mine was a 5-speed car too. I'll have to check into his....

Is your car painted white and have you matched the VIN on that RPO sheet to the VIN on the car?

You have the 11U & 11L White which would indicate that your car was indeed white from the factory.

According to the Standard Catalog of Firebird: the following was Manditory for the 15th
L69 HO Engine
W62 Aero Package

According to the Firebird Red Book the WS6 was included with the L69 HO Package when put with the MM5 Manuyal Trans? P 113 You have Both... yet no WS6

11A I belive would indicate a White Body Accent Stripe white stripe white car...
604 & 609 Gray Seats and Seatbelts (consistant with the 15th)
601 indicates Gray Interior trim... Did not the 15th come with White Trim on the Steering Wheel, and Shifter??? The plot Thickens...

You also have the QDZ option which indicates the 16" x 8" Tires and Rims only included on WS6 Trans Ams from 85-87 and the 87 Formula.

Y82 = 15th T/A in 1984.
QDZ = 16" 15th T/A wheels (the white ones). Like Okfoz said, also used on the 85-86 WS6 cars and 87 Formys.
L69= The right motor.

Why you dont have WS6 listed is strange.

Thanks for the input to all...

Still confused though...

Everything seems to be in order just no actual letters "WS6"

Even the springs come up as "Computer Selected" when I ran all the codes...

Anyone else care to chime in with the million dollar answer????

Sounds reasonable BUT I decoded ALL the RPO's and NONE say anything about PERF. SUSP...

Just what I mentioned about the springs...

What is really odd is I thought all Trans Am's came with at least the base "performance Suspension" I think its the Y99 "Rally Tuned Suspension".

I could be wrong tho all I know is Formula stuff like the back of my hand.

Maybe it's the first known 15th anniversary Trans Am without WS6.

Maybe Norwood figured it was redundant to put WS6 on the label since it was included in the Y82 package which included 16" N96 rims, and the L69 that required WS6, whether automatic or manual.

They stamped their cowl tags differently. Do you have WS6 on the cowl tag?
bingo i'd say this is it

Sorry I took so long...

Just found what I think is my cowl tag (metal square with characters stamped into it, riveted just infront of the radiator support) and it reads;

Top Row: E04A 2FS87N 231661> (My Last 6 of the VIN)
_________^
_________(zero)

Second Row: 11L 11U Enamel >(Paint RPO's From Label?)

Third Row: 604 A09 CC1
__________^___^
__________(zero)(zero)
Fourth Row: W62 BOT
________________^
______________(Letter "O")
Last Row: 095617 484761
_________^
________(zero)

(Or vice versa but I think I read it right)

Hope we can crack the mystery with this new found info...
Thanks again for the help!

I would be curious to see the VIN... Seing that he has a 1G2FS car which would indicate a Firebird... BUT he has the W62 Package that was T/A only...

This is one Odd car in my book...

DUH!

I thought I included the VIN earlier...

Here it is:

1G2AW87G9EN231661

Looks like we're getting closer...

I can't figure out what "BOT" could be either... I don't see it on the RPO label either although I am going cross eyed staring at the same sequence of letters over and over... I did however notice the "AQ9" typo that I made!

Thanks again!

Hope I can help some of you guys out in the future!

One issue I have with a friend right now is he claims his car is a Firehawk, not a Firebird. I argue with him stating that the Firebird is the Pontiac model name and the Firehawk is the submodel. Just as I have a Chevrolet Camaro Z28 (IROC-Z). He disagrees and feels that he has a Pontiac Firehawk.

This relates to the same issue raised by John. The cowl tag denotes the model as a Firebird. Other options and codes make it a Trans Am or a Formula

Thanks for the corrected RPO descriptions! The ones I posted are the ones that I got mostly from the decoder on this website. A couple of them that didn't come up I got from some "GTA Source" website... And I think one or two I got from the forums here...

I'm very thankfull for all the help so far. But I still don't know why there is no "WS6" listed. I guess it will just be a mystery... I am gonna order a Pontiac Historic Services package on my car like KrazyCowGirl suggested in an earlier thread and see what I can get from that...

Any further info would be appreciated!

Thanks Again!

Have you looked for the build sheet? The build sheet for my 84 T/A was under one of the rear seat cushions. If your car is fairly original it should still be there.

The build sheet is what the assembly line workers used as the car wen't down the assembly line. Most of the time the workers put a build sheet under a seat or on top of the gas tank.

If there is no WS6 on the build sheet then I'd really wonder if the car has WS6.

That's another great suggestion! I'll keep my eye on that when I get a chance to start the interior resto... I'll be taking some pics tomorow (Sunday) and I'll see if I can get a shot of what I think is the cowl tag...

Thanks again for all of your help!

um.. why not just measure the Front sway bar and see how many MM it is? Wont that tell you if you have ws-6?

BTW where are you in Boston. IM just outside of Boston. I'd love to see your car.

I , too, have a 15th, and it aslo does not list WS6. All 15ths were, however, WS6 cars. Depending on the plant, they didn't include it as an RPO. Similer the the way the omitted J65 from some WS6 and WS7 cars. It is a redundant code. Also on the !5, WS6 had sway bars that were eventually used in the 85 WS6 cars.

That seems to be the popualr answer, that they didn't list the WS6 due to being redundant... I can at least sleep at night now. Until I look under the seats for the build sheet, or when I order a PHS kit and end up more confused than I am already............

Who knows, maybe it will all make sense once I get my hands on those two other things.

Thanks again for the input!
