I'd speculate $1500 to $3500 depending on overall condition, what you need to do outside of a trans. My Deville needs a new trans but the owner sold it for $520 ending eBay bid. They had already done $1800 in repairs. I'm expecting some minor body work and a new headliner at least, but no more mechanicals

Not to make an off handed remark, but its worth whatever your willing to pay for it.

I would find someone who fixes transmissions and ask them how much to put in a new one, then look at the condition of the car as if it worked fine... THats a good place to start. Keep in mind by not driving it you have no way to know other particulars, such as strange noises etc, but its a gamble... I got my first Formula that way for $1,100 Engine did not run, as it turned out it had a new Transmission, but its already going at 20,000 miles.

Good luck, I would only buiy it if its what your really looking for, and are willing to put in some time and work.

John

You love that dang car... I can tell.

I loved my '86 too. That aluminum 4100 V8 was scary at times though.

Originally though, I scoffed at the downsized Cadillacs, but just as Design Staff comments in the 1995 Eldorado book I bring up in the convertible section, the cars were lacking in style, but driving and comfort wise, they still say 'Cadillac'.
The white sheetmetal is in the best shape I think I've owned, for example, trunk and door sill seams are rust free! My folks wish I'd buy or lease new, but I like owning the car outright and trying/hoping for as little upkeep/repair as possible...but as the old joke goes; GM: General Malfunction

To be honest, if you know of Kennedy and AAMCO, went to both, at AAMCO they will rebuild under warranty what you have for about $1800. It can be quite spendy. Kennedy Transmission locally bills at 70 per hour I think, about 11 hours of labor to do it, I'm trying to recall offhand
