Louvers became a factory option on F-bodies in 1986 and they were not made by Cragar. I don't know you actually manufactured them, whether they were sub-contracted or if GM built them themselves. Regardless, they do have a GM part number stamped on them.

Would it be different on Camaros? Cause my '85 came with the 3-piece louvers from the factory... no longer on there cause they decided to rip off on the highway at 70mph... ended up 1/4 mile in the field!

Errrr... most cars that were wrecked and then repaired, are. All it means is that it got wrecked, someone decided not to junk it, it was written off, then someone fixed it and had it inspected and deemed roadworthy again.

They are pretty much the same.. but actually I hated the louvers.. I mean they were great in keeping the temp down a bit on hot days and keeping people from seeing what was in my trunk.. but trying to clean under it or seeing through it especially on rainy days was a nightmare... plus I think it looks better with them off anyway... so all in all things are good.
Oh and about the '82.. salvage title or not.. I would still LOVE to have one..

This is a tad bit off topic but today my friend kicked me down(gave to me)a 1984 Buick station wagon. The V8 engine sounds very strong but I dont know what size it is ,maybe a 350?The vin # is 1G4AV35Y1EX437148 for anybody who can help.
The reason I mentioned this car is because I know a guy down the street who is selling a 84 trans am thats great but has no engine and I wonder if it is feasable to throw the Buick engine in it,it might even be a chevy corperate 305 but I dont know.thanks.
Ill post pics soon

Okay......I went to DMV.org and found out its a 84 Buick electra estate wagon ,5.0 L V8 4bb . Oh yeah, and OHV?My bird is fine but 2 is better than one so is it worth it to get the 84 trans am and drop the Buick engine in it.?

Agreed.. sell the car for what you can.. get yourself a 350 out of a salvage yard.. according to Joe (from AACF) they are "As common as dogsh*t" And you will outperform that 307 anyday. Just my $.02 of course.

Chevy took Pontiacs lead and offered them on the Camaro in 86

Never really cared for the idea of the rear wiper myself... have heard too many bad things about it. However there have been some days where the wiper would have been nice...

You should be glad you don't have t-tops. There cool to have when the seals are good, but suck *** when they tell you they're bad and it rains like a f'ing typhoon. Thank *** I had a couple of towels in the car that day.

I only had that problem the 2 times I went though a car wash right when I bought my camaro 7 years ago.. got a shower both times.. then learned to hand wash it since.
But under HARD rain the Camaro drips a few drops.. the Formula doesnt.. I think the Camaro has to do with the T-tops were smashed and replaced from a T/A and the body had been twisted. Planning on replacing all seals and weatherstriping this summer when I rip apart the two 'Birds. But otherwise.. I LOVE my T-tops.. Glad I have them.. didn't think I would ever own another car without them.. until I picked up the '85 'Bird.. with the newly rebuilt 350 bored .60 over with the 5-speed.. its nice... so I am planning on swapping the engines and transmissions as well.

I have leaks from my factory ASC vert top. Near the weatherstrip seams at the front across the windscreen on the sides, water tends to drip down my door. The past week, snow got in the same location on the passenger side, it still confounds me. If money is no object, you can transplant a ful size factory sunroof over, the kind that slides down and back....with sunshade, I would imagine. I have that in the back of my mind for Deville ideas if i don't outright trade for a Caddy factory vert at some point. i imagine the cost being somewhere around $2000 to cut and weld/wire that up
I doubt Crager made louvers as well. Where does it say Crager other then a sticker anyone could apply?

According to the 3rd gen 1987 promo I have the 305 V8 in Birds exemplified were 155HP IIRC
BTW, as far as Buick engines, look for the 3.8 V6 and then get the turbocharger and intercooler from an 87 T type car!

Which Bird had 155HP? I could swear I heard that stat in my video. I'm gonna grab some stills to see if you guys know which videos I'm referring too. They were so interesting, I'm eager to come across another tape full... VHs or Beta, DVD, anything... I got all the home formats hehe

I beleive it was the '85 or '86 LG4 that had 155 HP. The use of the L69 electric cooling fan boosted the HP another 5 HP.

The last year the LG4 was made (1987) I have read several places the HP was up to 170HP, then I read other places where the Formula and Firebird got a 165HP version, BUT I have never figured out what was different between the engines in the parts catalogs...

the difference is the air intake design. It is/was more resitrictive on the birds as the air was brought from within the engine compartment, where as the camaros intake actually drew in some outside air.

Early and late 3rd gen Birds had minor bumper placed venting, vs the kind I have with screwed in rub strip trim and scooping air from underneath

the 307 was also in 79-85 Buick Rivieras, some Electras, some Park Ave., I think it may have been an option in some Regals, it was also in the Olds Toronado. Needless to say it was a staple engine for GM for several years... I put 190,000 miles on one without any problems, I got rid of the car due to transmission slippage.
