Special Olympics Edition Camaro?

Can someone explain this please?

According to the Camaro Production Numbers listed here in 1984 there were 3,722 "Special Olympics Edition"Camaro's made.

I've never heard of this and want to know exactly what this car was.

Curious and serious,

Yeah... I found that. I guess a better question would have been the following:

"Is it actually a "Special Edition Olymics Camaro" or a "Special Edition Camaro?" or is it a "Special Olympics Edition Camaro?"

The wording can't be right.

I would think that like Buick has done for years, for each Olimpics they have a special run of cars that have special badging. Here in Flint there are several of them. We also get Buick Open cars, but I think those may be simply dealer stuff.

I think the wording is confusing, it should simply state "Olimpics Edition" rather than calling it a Special "Olimpics Edition"

My bet would be that the biggest change was some Olimpics Rings sticker on the car somewhere...

I don't think they were Special Olympics Edition Camaros I think they were Special Edition Olympic Camaros (Big difference in the wording of the two). It just sounded odd when I read it.

There you go. For a moment I thought I had some good fodder for ragging the Sacramento boys in 'Maros at the track.

The official term for this car is "Olympic Special Edition." There is no confusion there.

Here are a few more. Try not to fall out of your chair with excitement. Did they make two versions? summer and winter. The earlier pictures show what looks like a snowflake? and these are more emblem type with maybe some "LA" decal. I can't tell.

All of the Olympic camaro's I ever saw were white sport coupes. They would be sitting on the lots seemingly forever. Nobody wanted them...

Re: Special Olympics Edition Camaro?

I thought the Olimpic Special Camaros were all WHite...

The Red one has the Olimpic rings, so it may be dealer offering... The white cars had a special insignia...

You may be correct, the one may be a snowflake...

Re: Special Olympics Edition Camaro?

I have pics of mine in my profile thing. The special "olympic edition" camaros were white and had the blue/orange stripes down the sides and along the quarters, as far as I know these were the only ones with blue interiors. All it really is, is a visual package.

At first reading I actually thought an edition commemorating the Special Olympics - thought it odd but admirable.

Re: Special Olympics Edition Camaro?

The white olympic Camaro represets the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo. The red Olympic Camaro is still a mystery. The white decaling above the Olympic rings does not represent the Summer Games as far as I can tell.

Re: Special Olympics Edition Camaro?

Seeing that the red car is in CA, I would be that it was a Dealer offering, or a group of dealers that offered them in 1984. The poster lives in CA, I assume that the car too is in CA.

I parted a white '84 Berlinetta with the same blue zebra striped interior. No affiliation with the Olympic Edition to my knowledge.

Re: Special Olympics Edition Camaro?

BTW, the listing is technically for Special, "Olympics Edition"..., not "Special Olympics Edition"...

It might be confusing, but I do not think that there was ever an edition for a "Special Olympics" car. If there was, I am not aware of it.

Curious and serious,
I had one because my parents bought one brand new in 1984 when we lived in California and in 1996 when I turned 16 they gave it to me and my dad always has been a grandpa driver and always had all the maintenance stuff done and it drove like new and looked new on the inside but I saw that somewhere they were saying they came with a 2.8 v6 but mine was a 5.0 305 and I loved that car so much that when someone ran into me and Totaled that my next 2 cars where 3rd Gen with a 1989 rs then a 1992 25th anniversary with t tops.
