I found an '85 Z28 model for sale at WalMart tonight. I was completely amazed to find that its actually a very nice glue and paint kit with a lot of detail.

I snapped some pics of the kit and box. It was only $7.99 and I must say, it was worth it.

Unforunately, its only an LG4 (with dual snorkel ); BUT, I was happy to find it none-the-less.

Sorry for the low pic quality, I just used my PCS phone.

I'd never seen it before either; that's what surprised me about it. It was right out front on the shelf. I looked for another one but they only had the one....

I hope you didn't pay 7.99 for that. It says right on the box $7.44. They owe you $.55.

Is that a Snap Tight kit? It looks like a reissue of one of the old kits I have that was molded in yellow. It's the only kit available that is a 85-87 style Z28 without the Iroc-z option.

The engine in it is supposed to be the L69, hence the dual snorkle air cleaner and 5-speed tranny.

It could be, although it clearly states that it does require glue. I've never messed with Snap Tight kits enough to know if its just a name or a product description.

I originally thought L69 too, but then I remembered that the L69 in '85 was only offered as an option in the IROC-Z28.

Yes, but the model car manufacturer isn't going to know that. They probably thought the L69 was a Z28 engine too.

My Snap Tight kit can be assembled without glue, although your kit looks the same, it must be a little different since it needs glue.

I'll have to stop by Wal-Mart on the way home.

No, the Wal-mart by my house didn't have it. They had the 82 vette, and the 57 Chevy. I'll have to check the Wal-mart in the next town up from me.

Hey I just picked up this model today at the nearest Wal-Mart. Surprisingly there was two of them left. it seems to be pretty good except for a few small things. I onlypaid 7.44 for mine.

-i think this is a rerelease of an older model that could also come in yellow, based on the different part numbers on the trees.

-the hood on mine seems to be ground down a tiny bit more on the passenger side by the wiper. I have some pictures.

-it has an RS grille. Correct me if im wrong about this.

-youll have to paint a thin black line around the top and sides of the back window, if youre into super-realism.

-Its a relatively simple model, which isnt really a problem.

-on the box, the english description of the motor is a 5.0 4 barrel, but the spanish and french descriptions list it as a 350 tpi motor.
Clearly, english is the better language.

Otherwise interior and bodywork are great. All the buttons and gauges are right where they should be. if anyone is interested, i think the heater panel is set to vent, warm, and med. low fan speed.

Our local Wal-mart has one left so if anybody wants one let me know!

The model is a reissue of the yellow snap-tight kit. I have a couple of the yellow ones.

The grill is the 85-87 standard z28 grill, without the Iroc-z option, or the fog light option in 86 and 87.

According to the plans, it was issued 85 and reissued in 91. At the time by Mongram, which has been bought out by Revell.

I want one!! My Walwart doesn't have any. And I'm blaming you guys for making me go in that store

The thing that sucks is, I'll never build it. No matter how dead-set I am on doing it, I never will. I have the 1/8 scale Iroc-Z model that looks IDENTICAL to my car, but I won't ever do it!

I have a model VERY simmilar to this one, but it is a blue car on the box with a yellow car inside.

So, who wants to sell me one?

Here's the yellow model I have, and the 1/8 scale model to show the size difference! lol

Just buy two, build one, keep one unopened. That what i do.

I have three of the 1/8 scale models, they are cool. I built one to resemble my 85 Z28, I'm currently building one to resemble my 87 Iroc-z, and I have one thats unopened and never will be built.

If your collecting kits and not building them, leave the cellophane wrapping on them, they are worth more unopened.

I would offer to help you Camaro owners out, but my local Wal-Mart does not have any in stock!

Nice 1/8th scale model! I just wished that they did a third gen Firebird Trans Am, instead of 2 second gen Trans Ams.

Aaron's looks like an 87 to me. MPC made kits for every year back then. They come up on Ebay quite a bit, but are surpisingly expensive.

I remember that kit! Back in late 1986 I built 4 of them in different colors. Then ordered a case (6) from the local hobby shop. That gives us 10 now! Plus the four unopened ones I still have!
I even went as far as to get the correct GM color code touch up paint in a spray can to paint these cars with.

The tv show "Knight Rider" used the 1/8th Camaro kit to build little "stunt Trans Ams" for the show. The created custom hoods, noses and rearends to make them into Trans Ams. Much easier to push a little model through a fake garage door than drive/wreck a real car!

I've got a 3rd gen bird 1:24th scale. It's a '91 Firebird Formula by Monogram. I got it off Ebay a few weeks ago but I don't own a 'bird. Anyone want it....... It's not in its original box, but it looks like it is all there......

Yea, I've seen the knight rider models. I'm also looking for a 3rd gen bird but around here all I can find is the red knight rider (which in my opinion looks stoopid) but, I've given up hope on finding a thirdgen bird

I've seen the third gen birds on Ebay periodically but not often enough. I've been outbid on at least 3 of them. There is only so much money I am willing to pay for plastic not specifically to be applied to my *real* car.

I've got that same "motorworks" model too. All I need to find now (without ebaying it) is a 3rd gen bird and I'll have one of each gen f-body (z's and birds) Actually I dont have the 1st gen bird yet, but my wal-mart has them there all the time. Of course, I still need to finish my 1st and 2nd gen z's first. it looks pretty cool looking at the shelf and seeing 5 f-body's sitting there (i've got a 4th gen Z and SS, 4th gen WS6 bird, 3rd gen Z, 2nd gen T/A)

I'd have to buy like 4 different kits to build a model that looks like my car. I'ts a z-28 w/ ws6 wheels and a cowl hood.

You can kit bash it with the Firebird
And it ain't hard to get a real well detailed kit out of it. Use the Firebird chassis, engine and drivetrain (need to do a little modifying, but it ain't brain surgery.) If you have a real set of modeler nads, you can try to bash the chassis from the fourthgen to get an LS1. All the thirdgen Firebird and Fourthgen Camaro stuff is common and cheap on Evilbay.

If there is a hobby shop near you, ask them if they carry Pegasus accessory rims. Most of their stuff is lowridaz but they have what they call "IROK" wheels, which are darn close to the factory 16" wheel. You have to mess with it to get it all to fit.

I'm kickin it with WalMart on my way home to look for one, been looking ever since I missed the "Simon and Simon" car about (holy crap!) 20 years ago.
