Is this true that there were only 2 iroc convertibles made in 1987 with the 5.7 engine.

There were not any VIN "3" (the 6th digit in the VIN) verts ever with the 350 engine. It seems it's not uncommon to find a VIN "2" vert with a 350, and I'm sure there were far more than 2 of them in 1987. The difference between the two types is a "3" car will be listed as a convertible on your title. A "2" car will not. This has to do with how the car became a convertible in the first place. The generally accepted story is that the "3" cars are considered factory authorized verts while the "2" cars were dealer ordered. The reality is that both went directly from the factory to ASC for conversion. The bottom line is that the car in the above link is very suspicious. They don't post the VIN. If they did that would tell us if it's truly worth anything. If the 6th digit is a 3, and the 8th digit is an 8, then it would truely be a rare car.

This car has come up twice before on this board. They appear to be advertising it as factory original. Which it is not. It is a customer converted 87 convertible.

There is something not right about this car. The leather interior is wrong, not stock. The door panels are wrong. No vin No.

A member in the Chicago area should go see the car in person and tell us what the scoop is.

I put alot of stock in Hemmings Motor News, a very reputable source in print. As a dealer listing, it can't be associated too closely, however, I'd say $25K with 44+ thousand miles....hmmmmm
I got mine under 40K, according to my title, a 1989 Formula with L98 block, for $8,600. That was a few years ago, of course, but I think that 25,000 is about what the converted car sold for new.
I've seen lower mileage cars in the same or lower price range.
A pic of the ASC badge would be good too

So far everything that has been said is completely accurate. What I did was to blow up the only image on the dash emblem. It's definitely not a "20th Anniversary...." map pocket which would indicate it's a "3". That means this emblem must be a "Z28 / IROC-Z" piece with ASC's "Special Edition (number)" under it. But from my very fuzzy blow-up, it looks like the factory "Z28 / IROC-Z" emblem has been removed with ASC's retained. This is proof that this car was a customer / dealer conversion, a "2" car.

I agree.. Hemmings isn't a fly-by-night operation. I also have some faith in the claim.

I think if it was technically possible and easy to do, you could probably get a one-off from the factory if you knew the right people or had the right connections.

This post tells the truth of the BS car. That car is not factory if it's a 350 and that all-leather interior was never offered, it's re-covered. We had to do some convincing to some people but all the true facts are there. Also, the 87 IROC-Z people are talking about me looking at and finding in that post is the car I bought after looking almost 5 years for it.
