When I 1st found this site, I was kinda surprised that there was such an active forum for cars that were like 15-20yrs old. I guess there's a lot of people who love their 3rd gen as much as I love mine.

So when did u get yours? Did u buy it new or recently? If u bought it new, why have u kept it for so long? And if u bought it recently, why did u decide u wanted a 3rd gen?

I got my '88 TA when I was 14. It was a stolen and recovered vehicle, so my dad bought it from the insurance company and we spent the yr and a half rebuilding it. She only had 315 miles when I got her. We finished it a couple months before my 16th b-day, and it was the 1st car I drove solo after I got my license. Lol... I tried to race some mom in a mini-van at a stop light and ended up lighting up the tires pretty bad. I still beat her though

I had my 1st date in that car, I took it to prom and graduation and a bunch of other stuff. When I ask my g/f to marry me in a few months, it will be in that car.

Not only does my car have a lot of sentimental value, it's also a great car. It's so much fun to drive, it handles great, and it's even been totally reliable. The only time she ever left me stranded was when I had a really old crappy battery... but that wasn't her fault. I replaced the battery and she's been fine ever since.

So... let's hear your stories about your 3rd gen!

I bought my car from my dad when i was 15. It was the only way he would let me drive it. I guess he had some sentimental connection with my Trans Am. He bought it new in 1982 and drove it for about 20,000 miles before he swapped a 355 in place of the lg4.

Then he moved to Hawaii.

After living here for a few years he shipped it over in 88 i believe. He drove it over here for a while until the clutch plate stuck to teh pressure plate. I guess the humidity was too much for the stock clutch plate.

Anyways after 12 years of being parked in the garage, i pulled it out last summer and started to work on the clutch and the other things that had deteriorated in the 12 years of being stored.

I remember sitting in the car when i was young pretending i was going 85 MPH (only an 85 mph speedo) and it was like i was breaking the sound barrier cause it thought 85 mph was fast

I got my first camaro when I was sixteen I had worked at Kroger part-time and saved the whole year before and I bought a black iroc-z. I had the iroc-z for a week and a drunk in a van hit me while trying to make a left turn and spun my out of control slamming me into a lightpole. My car was wrecked and I was sick because I had searched a year and a half looking for the perfect iroc-z with tops.

A month later I bought a gold camaro but it was a v6, so I did a little fixin sold it and bought the 86' Z28 I currently own a month later on 9/11.

I've always been in love with camaros the body style is just mean as hell and the stance is like no other. Thats why I still own this own today and hopefully for the rest of my life.

if she ever asks you to get rid of it down the line for somthing more practicle "but honey, i asked you to mary me in that car, it has sentimental value" argument over. AND you might get "sweet guy" points

i purchased mine two years ago, got tired of a jeep and thought it would be cool to have a car like my brothers. my little brother has a 1991 nissan 240sx (had anyway). i think it looks verry similar to a firebird (but more round). so when i was looking at cars i decided that i wanted somthing with fuel injection but still easy to work on (not too new) 86 was the first year for FI and did not have ground effects (i hate most firebird ground effects) i knew i wanted a 6 cause gas milage.

it was the first one i went to go see. as soon as i heard it run i knew i had to have it. (exhaust leaks make a car sound badd ***, man i was nieve) but i am glad i got it. every month it gets better and better in most ways and only worse in one or two. i love working on this car. while i may someday not own this bird anymore, i will always own a 3rd gen.

Not really history related as it pertains to the car. Also, this has been brought up before. Do a search and add on to that forum.
