There is no way t o tell the difference between a GTA and a Trans AM via the VIN.
THe GTA varied slightly from the T/A.
The tell-tale is the Emblems, where the Trans AM used stickers, the GTA used Emblems.
The GTA never had the front fender air extractors behind the front wheels. THey used the base Firebird fenders.
THe GTA was always monochromatic, and never had the lower stripe.
Your RPO's should be in the glove box center console. for 87

I put this link in the other thread you started about this, these are the best tips on determining if you have a GTA or not
http://www.gtasourcepage.com/Authentication.html
You may end up spending the $35 at Pontiac Historcal Services to get a packet on the car, if the SPID isn't in the console that will be the only way to find out. If the SPID is there, it will be a Y84 code.
However, there were 9,481 GTA's made in 1987, and 7,818 Trans Ams (including GTA's) which had the L98 350 which means there were somewhere around 1600 or so Trans Am's which possibly had the 350 (since some of the GTA's could be purchased with the LB9 engine)
Best bet would go with PHS and see what they can tell you.

You probably have a GTA, there is the off chance someone changed the parts out, but doubtful.
BTW, where in SE MI do you live? I am in the Flint Area, but SE mi is usually Detroit area.

Some other ways being the Pontiac lettering on the drivers headlight door will be gold, the dash pocket will say GTA instead of Trans Am, the tallight filler will have a gold bird in it, the seats will be the Ultima articulating seats which were a GTA only seat. Also the badge on the front bumper as well since it is mounted with a bolt which alot of times people do not do this when making a clone.

If you really and truly want to know, spend the $35 bucks and get with Pontiac historical services and get a packet on the car, but by the time you get it, the car could be sold unless you already bought it.
