trans-am 1983

Hello,
i own a black 83T/A and i am wondering why the early 3rd gen are so rare around here.I see lots and lots of 84-92 birds and 82-92 camaro but very few like mind.Even on my internet search i can't find a lot of early 3rdgen bird for sell in canada.

I know that people diden't buy them cause they where underpowered. But is there any reason why they disapear like that?Knight Rider fanatics?

In the long run, does this will affect the value of the car?Cause i'm looking to buy a nice ws6 86 T/A and maybe i will take my black for parts since it's off-road cause of frame issue.

The 86 sure does worth more now but in 10 years, witch one will worth more i dunno. Not that i want to make money out of it but i dont want to throw a few thousant in a broken frame car if the ws6 is more desirable in long term.

Thanks!

Jeff

They really aren't worth much and I don't see them increasing in value. The only ones that might be worth anything are the Recaro's, '84 15th Anniversary Edition, and Daytona's. But even those are not really increasing in value. I remember seeing in an issue of High Performance Pontiac someone had a MINT '83 or '84 Daytona that was actually a pace car. Had all the documentation and everything. It was stored for 20 some odd years and even with that the car wasn't worth "alot" The main reason is because as you pointed out these cars were underpowered and therefore less desireable. The production numbers are pretty high for the early thirdgens especially '82 so they really aren't "rare" when looking at the numbers. If they are rare now it is because they have all been junked over time and deteriorated. I was lucky to get my '82. I wasn't even really in the market to get a 'bird but I saw this one in the local paper and jumped on it. I hardly ever see '82-'84 birds in my area, but in the event you do they are pretty shabby looking. Being old doesn't make it rare.

I have an 83 T/A and 83 Camaro... Both are parts cars... maybe thats the problem, most of them were cheep parts cars and are being gobbled up for that purpose. Now people are starting to notice the cars being that there almost 25 years old...

But why these car are sometime expensive on e-bay?They just mention "Good base for a kitt car" and they boost their price. When i see bowling caps so overpriced,i can't help but wonder if in a few year, night rider fan will be willing to pay big price for a nice 82-83 T/A.

BTW,you had a nice black T/A Dave,why did u sell it

Well, I saved one of those "unrare" 83s
It has the "unrare" 5-spd trans, also

But I don't care, because it's MINE.....ALL MINE (hee, hee, hee

Honestly though, I remember when the 3rd gens first came out, and I thought, ( Those suck!! I mean come-on, a HATCHBACK?)
And this was after years of having all those cool 2nd gens everwhere.
Don't get me wrong, I love my 83, it's just that back then, they were a let-down.

I'm sorry to say, but I think that was the common thought back then!
Around these parts, anyway.

That was then, and we all change to accept things, but I really feel that the Z-28 came out in 82 with the GFX, and looked great, where it took the T/A a couple more years to catch up, and it was that very thing, that I think the early 3rd gen Firebirds, seem to get over looked.
For the longest time, I wanted a new T/A (85+newer), but never got around to it. ( Maybe my son will end up with one, someday).

Sorry that this was soo long....

Leon.

I guess these people think that a KITT conversion is more desireable than having an actual "stock" firebird. I've noticed that alot of "Knight Rider" parts have not been selling on Ebay lately. I'm always checking out Ebay for this stuff and I'm starting to think that people are realizing that the prices are just way too high. And if someone puts Knight Rider in their auction they think it will sell more and they will get more out of it. Kind of unrelated but I saw an '82 firebird steering wheel on Ebay that looked pretty mint. I thought about trying to pick it up but the seller want's 60 bucks. A little too high for me, and my steering wheel is fine other than the leather is kind of worn. I could probably get it recovered for less than that.

I wish I still had it, I would give anything to have that car again, but someone decided to smash into it while the motor was out of it, thus the insurance company considered it totalled. Theres more on the car on my web page.
