Convertible Trim?
I was at a local cruise night the other day and i guy that my dad knows brought his 88 iroc convertible with a 500+ c.i. motor. So we were talking to him about his car and I noticed there was a trim piece that extended onto the top/rear of the door. The guy said that all verts had it and that they had just gotten ripped off from people grabbing them to open/ close the door. My dad is repainting his vert and he doesnt have them on his car. Does anyone have any info about them or where to get them?

The part in question (see pic below) was used on all 1987 and only a very few early 1988 convertibles. The rear quarter trim piece was different on the remaining (1988-92) convertibles. At the front edge, these parts had rounded corners whereas the 1987 - early 1988 pieces' corners are sharp and pointy!!
These door filler extensions have not been available for a long time and are not reproduced. Good luck finding them!

ok, that would explain why our car doesnt have it because it was higher vin number so it most likely was never on the car. thanks willie
Thats the first time I believe I've ever seen that. I guess since I used to own a 89 IROC Z convertible it wasn't supposed to have it. Doesn't look too bad too. Is there a pic someone can provide with a full car in the shot with that trim ?

That extra trim piece looks really nice on the cars, its a shame that they didnt keep them on through 92, but i dont blame them because thy probably fall off a lot and its not really 'needed'.

The door extension "filler" is made from plastic and held in place with two plastic studs. It's unbelievable how many people grab hold of this piece when closing the door, gradually weakening the studs until one or both break off. I was guilty of this too until I realized how fragile it is.
Here's a pic of a later run 1988 convertible. Notice how the rear quarter trim piece has rounded corners on the leading edge. This is what makes the 1987-early '88 pieces with the squared corners very hard to find.
