Rpo Code Help?

Hello,
Since the RPO decoder is down I was wondering if any of you could help me dechiper these codes? A few numbers or letters might be wrong but any and all help would be appreciated.

I guess it should be added that if the decoder returns some without a description you can post them and someone usually will try and decifer them. Unfortunately sometimes there not listed, and the information must be decoded from similar items as it is not relevant to actually repairing the car.

That is your paint colors, athough it is found in the 3 digit RPOs

BC/CC WA-L8555-UE555

BC/CC = Base Coat / Clear Coat
WA = Water Base

L = Lower 8555 color coresponds to RPO 41L or 19L (BLACK)
U =Upper 8555 color coresponds to RPO 41U or 19U (BLACK)

If its an 88 - 90 the IROC and Z28 were the same. I am not sure about this but those years I do not think there is a seperate RPO for IROC...

You would have to have someone that knows more about Camaros than I... I specialize in Formulas

only differnce i can find for the IROCZ' and Z28s in 85 (drivetrain wise) was that the IROCZ had an optional 3.42 rear end gear ratio (if equiped with an LB9 5.0 V8) and the z28 could be had with LB9, but NOT 3.42 rear ratio.

i got this off of the "tech data" section on the main page.

Did someone call my name?

The IROC-Z was an option package on the 85-87 Z28s. 1985-1987 had both the Z28 and IROC-Z along with other models. In 1988, the IROC-Z replaced the Z28 as the top package. So the 88-90 Z28s were all IROC-Zs. In 1990, the IROC-Z was no longer available and the Z28 returned as the top model.

In all actuality, all IROC-Zs are Z28s. In 1985-1987, to get the IROC-Z package, RPO codes Z28 and B4Z were used. 1988-1990 used only RPO Z28. RPO B4Z was dropped in 1988 since all Z28s were IROC-Zs. Your only options were Sport Coupe and IROC-Z. 85-87 you had sport coupe, berlinetta, Z28, IROC-Z and in 87, the LT.

Guys, thanks for all your help. I did some searching and came up with this. I am sure it is an Iroc right?
....so isnt there a way to differintiate z28 from iroc
"Visually" other than the colors?

First and foremost, third gens are old and it's difficult to tell whether it's original, repainted, restriped, etc. The info we furnish here deals with originality only.

That being said, the answer to your question for 1985-87 model years about visual differences is:

1) Z28's came in more exterior colors than the IROC-Z. So if it's one of those colors that wasn't available on the IROC-Z, it must be a Z28, i.e. 1987 dark blue metallic.

2) Z28's of some colors, bright metallic blue for example, came with a tri-colored blue "Z28" emblems whereas a bright metallic blue IROC-Z's "Z28" emblems were tri-colored silver.

3) Z28's were all painted with silver, gold or charcoal ground effects. IROC-Zs were body color.

4) Z28's came with a four-color stripe. The bottom color was always black with the remaining three being similar shades of silver, gold, gray, red, or blue. Some Z28 exterior color combinations had an optional striping color. For example, a white Z28 with silver rockers came with silver striping with red striping as an option. The IROC-Z striping was two-colored: silver/black, gold/black or red/black (1985 only).

5) The tires/wheels were different.

6) IROC-Zs were all equipped with fog lamps. For the Z28, fog lamps were not an option in 1985. They were a $60 option in 1986. In 1987, they were not available separately but were included of the 1SC Option Package #3.

Pictured is a 1987 bright metallic blue Z28. It is a perfect example of what a Z28 looks like. With a gray or black interior, the rockers were silver and the striping was blue (no silver striping available with this color combo in 1987, only 1985 & 1986).

I may be wrong but I think the fog lights were only available with option package 3 (1SC). I know that is the case in 87, but it might also be true for 85. Your car has some good options, but not 1SC. T96 is the RPO for fog lights and you do have that.

I do have the T96 in the rpo code, it is on the last line. According to the other post I showed I assumed this was an Iroc, could I be wrong?

One of the best ways to know is to check the door sticker. Z28s came with 215 series 15" rims. IROC-Zs came with 245 series 16" rims.

No rpo B4Z means no IROC-Z. You have a Z28 there.

I am so confused, it has the 16" rims and the fog lights. According to what I read from the post I listed earlier it is an Iroc. I will post a pic and let me know if it is or isn't. I also thought only Irocs had one color as this car did?

I didn't spot a G80 in there either, wasn't the performance rear standard in the Iroc as well?

What I would do is make sure that the VIN on the RPO code list in the console matches the VIN on the car so ensure you have the original RPO list.

It was easier to clone an Iroc from a Z28 than it was to clone a Trans Am from a Firebird, and a GTA from a Trans Am, too many differences between them.

According to the owner the vin matches the rpo sheet, and he has stated the car is an Iroc, I have no doubt in believing him and I was wondering if any of you can prove him wrong? I have had many different answers on how to truly tell an Iroc from a Z so how do I know for sure???

According to the rpo code N96 and ODZ it must be an Iroc right?

There is this one code though

1AZ : Order Modification, Orders Sold (or: CUSTOMER ORDERED VEHICLE)

Could be a special order with the iroc stuff, but no B4Z code

I just got off the phone with the owner and he once again assured me it is a true Iroc. He also stated that the rpo sheet is 21 years old and yellowing and hard to read so the codes he gave me may need some letter and number adjustment. I am flying 2000 miles next week to pick up the car and driving it back home so wish me luck. The car has a rebuilt 350 with 600 miles on it so I should have no problem.
Thanks for all your help everyone!

it's close enough. i don't think anyone will thinc less of you for refering to it as an iroc-z. if i was to call my GTA a formula it might **** a few people off. but your Camaro is a 350, with 16" wheels, irocz badging, a 3.23 rear end... call it what you want to call it, you got a sweet ride

Thank you very much,
I scored this ride for $1050 from a really sincere guy who ran into a problem with a fire at his house. I would like to think I made out like a bandit but I will let you know when I get her home from a 1900 mile drive. The car has new paint, new crossed drilled rotors on disc brakes all the way around, new supension, new motor, looks like a gem and many other new parts. The interior looks sweet if you like Carmine Red but I can live with it for awhile.

It was for sale here on TGO in the cars for sale forum. The owner has been a member since 2003 but only has 1 post so maybe that is why no one responed.

The picture you posted "looks" like an IROC-Z, but that doesn't make it so. The fact the engine has been replaced and the car was repainted makes it even easier to clone. I did notice QDZ in your RPO codes. QDZ is the code for 245 series 16" wheels, only available on the IROC-Z. I still don't see B4Z though which is the IROC-Z package for the Z28.

I had to correct some, and there appears to be some missing.

Thanks again John,
He wrote down the codes using a flash light after he got off of work and he stated there are probably some wrong and perhaps some missing. Could this help identify it?

I think he probably missed the IROC code, it appears as tho it is a real IROC, as the Z28 was not availble with the 16" rims to my knowledge.

Fog lights weren't even an option on 85 Z28's, it was Iroc only in 85. Fog lights became an option on 86 and 87 Z28's.

OK guys,
I got the car home from a long 2000 mile drive this weekend. The car is beautiful, has alot of HP and does need some TLC on the interior but I was able to get it for $850 after all was said and done. now I have a question about the badging. The dash and the rear bumper have the orange/red Z28 badges, but the GFX under the doors have the silver Z28 badges. Did it come this way or were the silver ones just added? Any and all help is always appreciated.

Sounds like it's correct to me. The dash should be red/orange and the rockers should be grey.

Thank you very much,
You just saved me money because the auction for red z28 badges is ending in an hour and now that I don't need then I can quit bidding.
