82 "tuner" Z???
82 "tuner" Z???
I have been told by two different people that my car is some special "tuner" Z. Along the lines of the Mecham T/A's. Supposedly it originally had silver paint with orange and yellow graphics, a dana 60 rear w/ 4.10's, a modified cease-fire 305, and four wheel disc brakes.
I can verify the disc brakes, the silver paint, and the CFI, possibly the dana rearend. What I can't find out is if this thing is what I've been told it is. Supposedly it was a killer road racer in its day. If anybody has any information I would be greatly appreative before I start doing irreversible mods to it.

So, does it run like a 165hp CFI, or something more? Is it a 16 second car? It shouldn't be hard to tell for someone with Buick 455+N2O experience. Also, a Dana 60 rearend is 9.25" ring gear. The housing is massive compared to the 7.5" or 7.625" 10 bolt that came with a stock 82 Z. That can't be hard to spot either.

At the moment I'd be happy if the damn thing ran at all. Yes I do know that it was a dana 60. Only because the guy that gave it to me did on the condition that I swap the rear into his 87 GTA. Yes, it was a big SOB. I just want to know if this thing was as special as I've been told.

Calroc, I don't think he's questioning what his car has, but whether it came that way or of somebody put it there. It's a lot harder to find out where the stuff came from than what it is.
PC, I'd probably see if you can go to the registry and find out as much as you can about previous owners and see if you can contact the original dealer that it came from. Because this would have been an aftermarket type of conversion, the dealer would probably be the one to talk to.
