'91-'92 GTA's with T-tops & 350?????

Someone mentioned a few messages below that you could indeed get a '91-'92 GTA with T-tops and the 5.7 liter. From what I understand, by various salespeople back in '91-'92, brochure, and books that the 5.7 liter with T-tops was only available on Formulas with factory black diamond-spoked wheels. I could certainly understand Frankie Rider 2's argument about a few "slipping" through the cracks for certain VIPs, but some of you guys make it sound like Pontiac produced them by the truck loads. One guy stated that he had seen lots of '91-'92 GTAs with 350s & T-tops. I'm located here in So. CA and have seen quite a few '91-'92 Formulas with 350s & T-tops, but I have never seen a '91-'92 GTA/TA with a 5.7 liter & T-tops. Did Pontiac ship all these VIP cars to the midwest/northeast or something? Darn!!!

The guy who said he's seen 'lots of 91/92 GTAs with T-tops' is on crack. I don't see a lot of those cars, PERIOD. In fact, I've only seen one 91/92 GTA in person, a handful of 91/92 T/As, and less than two 91/92 dozen Formulas.

Here is a photo of a SPID sticker out of a Third Gen Firebird. (I smeared the VIN sequence number to respect the owner's privacy)

NOTE:

10th digit in VIN is an N = 1992
CC1 = T-tops
L98 = 350

This is obviously a Formula with crosslace wheels (PW7) and not a GTA.. But it proves T-Tops *were* available as a factory option on 1992 350 cars.. I've never seen any 91/92 GTA's with the 350/T combo, but there sure 'nuff could be..

Here we go.........I personally know of 4 '91 GTA's, all white, that have the 350 and T-Tops. I have never seen any '92's

So it is a fact that "a few" did slip through the cracks, in fact, I am the one who suggested this to Frankie

Further more, I would think that were definantly NO '92 GTA's produced as there were only 226 ever made and all of them are documented.

------------------
1992 GTA (226 made), 1 of only 18 "Dk. Jade Gray Met. Primar" 92 GTA's, Window Sticker, 305 TPI, 700R4 4-Speed, T-Tops, Grey Leather, every option except rear disk brakes (Oh well, makes it 1 of a kind), and CD.
Current Mods/Upgrades: 80 Series Dual Outlet Flowmaster, TPIS Air Foil, OE Replacement K&N Air Filter, and Mobil 1. THAT'S IT! 98% STOCK!
Future Mods/Upgrades: None but a complete restoration.

Thanks, I think I'm beginning to understand the whole issue now. Pontiac had indeed produced a small number of '91 GTA/TAs (excluding '91-'92 Formulas with the PW7 black diamond-spoked wheels) with the L98/B2L and CC1 option combo.

Makes me believe that maybe these particularly optioned GTA/TAs were produced very early in the '91 production run. Sort of as a last ditch effort by Pontiac to offer this option combo in their GTA/TAs. I wonder if anyone has any concrete data as to how many might have been "slipped" through the cracks? Were there any ordering contraints, if any?

To blacksunshine'91, I'm located in the Inland Empire. I certainly don't deny the existence of '91 GTA/TAs with T-tops and the 5.7 liter of which you have a real life example of. You are indeed a very lucky person. Thanks.

Ok .... I dont but maybe they all made to the new england area , because I know of atleaste a hand full of 91-92 GTA with T-tops and the 350 and they where factory and formula's for that matter I allmost Bought two different ones one point or another in my search for the perfect formula. But I wanted the 5-speed so i found one with the 230 Hp 305 , but i know there out there , there abviously not that many out there for the simple reason that 92 was the last year for the thirdgen and people waited for the new 93 models... i know of three 91-92 GTA's in my city one has the T-tops and the 350.

I know I was lucky. I just happened to be in San Diego for the weekend and I looked at an AutoTrader and saw it. I traded in my beloved highly moded '88 Formula for it. On top of it, I was able to talk them down to under $7,000 and it only had 69,000 mi on it!

Hey Pino,

Your side of the state must have stolen all the GTAs!! I've only seen ONE '91-'92 GTA in the last 6 months around here. Plenty of earlier GTAs and IROCs, but just that one '91-'92.

Glad to see another MA guy on here!!

Very rare that I see a GTA in MA. If I do, I usually stare at it for too long and almost hit something!

Hey T/A 1988,

Yeah, thats like me with IROCs! If I don't get my own soon, I WILL cause an accident

Pino,
We got GTAs in the area, but not '91-'92s. I see a lot of '87-'90s, but the newer ones are really hard to come by around here.
