Just hoping for a few thoughts on the subject of 1LE cars. Until recently I thought I owned one and much to my shock upon closer inspection found this not to be the case. I was detailling my find to someone who then informed me that without the car being an 1LE it was worthless. The only difference is my car has AC and was apparently ordered directly as dealer stock. Given that the "someone" was an appraisor I am interested in what people think. The car drives the same way (great)and you have the benefit of AC. I can't imagine that just because it came from a dealer it would suddenly be untouchable. So is it just a numbers game?
Thanks for the thoughts. Let the games begin...

I wouldn't call your car "worthless", but it doesn't have the value of the 1LE car. The 1LE option had a variety of parts (many available by other "option" groups) but the most noticeable is larger disk brakes.
The issue that makes 1LEs so valuable is simple, "rariety" of a desireable option. There are very few Camaros and Firebirds with that option AND its a desireable option.

Well said Glen...Besides the front brakes, and a few other little things, the IROCs Have pretty much the same suspension. At least my 90 does, and I have air!
1LEs will make great collector cars!

Mcaninch, looks like you've got a very nice black G92, 5spd Z28. Consider yourself lucky there are some '91 350 Z28's out there that have the G92 option, dual converters but somehow ended up with rear DRUM brakes!!!
Thanks for the feedback. I do love my car. In my mind it is how the car drives (ie. special performance options that make the car special not just that the car has no a/c) I suppose that I would be really ticked if the setup was the exact same as a 1LE but was ordered by a dealer and so it wasn't if you know what I mean. I asked the question because this professional appraisor driving a Ford Focus tells me that although I have essentially the same car performance wise people covet, I have one with ac so the replacement value if somebody steal/crashes into etc... is $4500 less. Doesn't seem right.
Thanks

David, as I understand it, the G92 cars all have rear disk. That is what the G92 option means. If the car has rear drums (even L98s), they are not G92. This is for 90-92 F-body L98s, I cannot comment on the other years.
Despite what people think, you do get dual cats without G92 along with all the other options...just not the rear disks.
That's exactly what I have on my GTA...all the options, just no rear disks...and no G92.

according to the Camaro white book 91 G92 could be ordered with rear drum for a $287 savings. Don't have any numbers on this but it has to be rare.

Jeremey, GM works in mysterious ways. According to ALL the literature I have ever seen about GTAs, 4 wheel disk brakes were standard. But the reality is, that GM was having some problems with the rear disk setup at some point. So for a period of time in 1990-1991, they only put rear drums on cars with automatics, including the L98 GTAs.
This was the explanation I received back then from GM. The G92 is listed as "Axle, Performance Ratio", but there is nothing different in the other options (I found a guy with a 1992 GTA virtually identical to mine). We both had GU5 (3.23s), G80 (Limited Slip), JG1 (Aluminum driveshaft) and N10 (dual cats). The only difference was I did not have J65 (4 wheel disk), I had J42 (Aluminum rear drums) and no G92.
The actual axle code is different for a 3.23 rear disk car and 3.23 rear drum car.

That's interesting that you have J41 (Cast iron) and not J42 (Aluminum)...I wonder if that is another of the differences.

Quoted from the Camaro White Book on the '91
G92 RPO:
"RPO G92($466)included engine oil cooler,4-wheel disc brakes(except for a brief period
when 4-wheel discs were deleted with a $287
credit),and dual converter exhaust."
Sounds like GM ran out of rear-disc equipped
rearends for a short time.

Yup, got all that (plus other goodies)...except the rear disk brakes...and no G92.

there is a stripped B4C in the junkyard here local with cast rear on it. The console is gone so I don't know the ratio but it is an ex-police car. Shame it is stripped and under another car.

The problems GM had with the disc brake rear ends goes back to at least 1983. Seems like 8 out of 10 1983-84 L69 Z28's I see have the J42 rear drum set-up. Unfortunately mine is one of them!
Jmon are you sure that car is a B4C?

Pretty sure, like I said, it is stripped and the front end is shot so no 1LE brakes(damn).

If you ordered J65, you got rear disk brakes. if not you got drums.
I factory ordered my 89 with J65, G92, N10, and I got them all. and I want a/c, so no 1LE for me. I still like my working a/c
