rare?
hi everyone. i have a simple question. im looking to buy a 91-92 z28. i want a 305tpi with t-5 tranny with t-tops. does all the 305tpi come with 230hp or is there a special rpo for it? ive been looking online for 1 and i cant find one (cant even find one without ttops).

Those are G92 cars. That exact combo is one of the most desirable imo, and I've never seen one for sale locally.
that would explain it. i have own a 92 rs with a 305tbi. sold it last year and ive been missing my camaro ever since. i rushed into buying that one and was unhappy with the performance but i loved the car. ive been searching for one all over but havent been able to find one (not on ebay, nor locally).

Yeah, you'll be extremely hard pressed to find a 305 TPI (LB9) with a T-5 and T-Tops (CC1) that is also a G92 (has a G80 posi rear end with 3.42 gears and dual cats) car. Especially if it's in good condition. They are possible to find though.
If you were looking for a T-top 5 spd car I'd look into an RS like the one you had, and then putting some money into the motor. Swap the TBI for a carb, put some vortec heads on it and a hotter cam and it'll push 300 hp.

do you think that is the way to go? would it be cheaper to buy a z28 with ttops with a 350 and swap the auto tranny over to a t-56? keep in mind, i wont be doing the work myself (im not that mechanically inclined to be doing all that stuff myself).

The swap isn't that hard, and it's probably the same price whether you swap an engine or a transmission. Since I'm doing all the work on my own cars myself I'm looking for one that's already a stick, since I'd rather swap a motor.

Actually you will have better luck finding a Formula or GTA with what you want. As they usually had the performance options standard on the 350 and 305/M5

On behalf of the Firebird guys, I say "It's alright that you have terrible taste in cars"
I'm kidding man, calm down
Like has been said tho, find a M5 T-Top car, and swap in a 350. Easiest way possible.

Unless you are looking for something that has been modified in its past, you won't find a factory Z with t-tops and the 5spd....Never made them. I think there is a sticky all about the 350cid 5spd, t-top availablitlity with dirvetrain option etc, etc.. in this is forum

In '91-'92? In a Z28? I thought that 5-spd cars came only in hard tops, just like the 350's.
I'm not sure about an RS though.
Scott, where did you get that info from? Curious...As I look through the camaro white book option CC1 is recorded as "not available with RPO G92 performace axle. or with Z28Coupe with 5-speed manual transmission" (p.124) I guess literature can be wrong, but..... And when I went to buy a new '91 from a dealer, I was not permitted to order a 5spd with t-roofs.

Not 100% on 1991, but in 1992, you could get ttops with a 5 speed as long as it wasn't part of the G92 package or option package 3 with a 5 speed. The base Z28 came with a 5 speed and 305. Adding ttops was just an option. I don't know why package 3 restricted the ttops. It added only twin remote mirrors and power seats.
So in summary, ttops were available with 5 speed only when G92 wasn't ordered. Also available only with option package 1 and 2.
